Gussied Up for the Holidays

Brandon and I finally finished decorating the house for Christmas. We were thinking about getting a real tree again (last year’s was so pretty), or maybe a big white fake tree, but we ended up using the little silver tree that we already had. It’s cute, just a little too small.

Our Silver Christmas Tree

Our white ceramic deer made an appearance again on the buffet, this time surrounded by silver ornament garland (picked up on sale at Pottery Barn).

Oh Deer

We don’t have a fireplace, so we hang our stockings on the built-in buffet.

And again, because we are lacking a fireplace mantle, I decided to decorate the TV stand.

There are those twee little reindeer again.

The paillettes that were in our old apartment are back out on display.

And I couldn’t let the sequin balls go without use another year, so I put them on my desk. They’re a little ridiculous, but they make me smile.

Tis the season!

Felt Reindeer

Jules warned me that my taste would change. Whimsy, sweetness, and cutesy… it will all be irresistible to me now that I’m with child.

Is this proof? Would I have seen these pre-pregnancy and thought “meh, too twee”? Especially since I couldn’t get them to stand up and instead placed them in tiny little chairs? I don’t know, but I sure do love them.

Sequin Balls

I wish I could find a good place in the house for these. They’re too awesome to live in plastic bags in the basement.

Felt Garland

Brandon and I are starting to think about holiday decorating. Real tree or fake? If fake… silver, white, or pink? Such are the difficult decisions we’re contemplating. ;)

I’ve been seeing a lot of felt garlands around lately, and I think they’re adorable. Problem is, I can’t help but think “I can make that”. I’ve never felted wool, but how hard can it be to make lots of tiny little balls, right? Then I can have exactly the colors I want.

If we use the little silver tree we have in the basement, we could go for this kind of look:

I’ve already started wrapping presents in green, red, and white paper. I’m eager to Christmas up the house!

Happy Halloween

Brandon and I carved our pumpkins with a new technique this year. We tried doing the whole halfway carving thing, with mixed results.

I like mine, even though it’s not as perfect as I had envisioned.

My Pumpkin

Brandon’s not as pleased with his. Originally he wanted to carve “Palin 2012″ with drippy, bloody looking letters because that was the scariest thing he could think of. He squished all of the letters together though and made it too difficult to carve, so he instead went with a robot. Then the pumpkin kind of dried out and now the mouth looks a little mummy-ish. Oh well.

They do look nice all lit up on the porch.

Happy Halloween, everyone!
