Looking good! Maybe some taller ornamental grass behind the little shrubs on both sides of the steps? Switch grass or purple fountain grass. That would give you the spikiness and height you mentioned on your blog. Plus it would be another texture. Switch grass is great because it is green when it comes up in the spring, then turns a nice purple in the fall. You have to prune it after the last freeze, but your shrubs would cover that until they grow back. Also, have you considered putting a color on your front door? (I Photoshop my house all the time! Isn't it fun!)
