Today, my girl is four years old. She alternates between her girly and tomboyish sides, but the other day she wanted to be extra fancy. That meant layering every necklace she owns over her pajamas, including one with Christmas lights that blink on and off. Plus fairy wings and a charm bracelet.
She also asked me to take a picture of her “stinky feet.” Ha! See that smile?
Man, we love that girl. She’s turning out to be someone pretty amazing. Happy birthday, kiddo.

And I know better now than to buy pink for things that will be seldom worn and then passed down.
A word of warning: you’re probably not going to pin these on Pinterest. They are a three-year-old girl’s first Valentine’s Day cards and they are simple, but she and her mother are over the moon about them.
I suppose I could have staged an elaborate table full of supplies, given a step-by-step tutorial, and taken beautiful photos in the early afternoon when the daylight is best. Maybe I should have gathered polished river stones (“You rock, Valentine!”) or done something clever with paint chips. Instead, my girl and I got together over the little side table in the living room and I helped her write her name a dozen times on paper hearts. Midway through, I asked Brandon to grab my phone and take a few pictures. It was real life.

I took monthly photos of Eleanor until she was two (I’m doing the same for August), and then I switched to half-yearly shots. Today, Eleanor turned three and a half.
Man, we love that kid.
