Making it Yours (MIY) Series

The Making it Yours (MiY) Series

I love the way rooms come together over time, with special pieces finding their way into different rooms at different stages of one’s life. A chair that was once on your front porch might show up in your son’s room five years later, in the family room after that, and maybe twenty years later in a vacation home. Pieces that you carry with you throughout your life become more than just an object you bought at some store, they become part of your personal history.

In that spirit, I created the Making it Yours (MIY) series for Making it Lovely. I follow one piece of furniture through several stages of an imagined life, and present a mood board for each.

[…] Making it Yours (MiY) is all about following a piece of furniture through several different stages of life, and showing how to reuse and repurpose it. In this edition, we’re following the window daybed, first seen here in a young boy’s bedroom. He still had it as his bed in his teenage bedroom (he’s a short enough guy), but when he moved out it became his couch. He still had a lot of maturing to do, so now we’re checking in on him many years later. […]
