I’m continuing today with Making it Yours (MIY), a new feature for Making it Lovely. I’m following one piece of furniture through several stages in an imagined life and presenting a mood board for each. The first item I’ve been designing around is the Borghese 3-Drawer Dresser.
The dresser has already been in our fictional girl’s nursery, teenage bedroom, and first (tiny) apartment, and now it’s making its way to her first home.
Here it is, back in a bedroom. The walls are wallpapered and the ceiling is painted to match the pattern’s background. Carpet tiles from FLOR and a honeycomb quilt add some nice texture to the room, while a silver table lamp adds some additional sparkle. The walls have a lot going on with the wallpaper, but there’s still an opportunity to hang artwork like the New Growth print from groundwork. The four-poster bed in the room was originally yellow but it’s been painted teal instead.
In the next edition of MIY, our new homeowner will be taking the dresser along with her to her dream home.

You are very talented and I love this new feature of yours! (I blogged about it on my blog) I can’t wait to see what else you come up with!
Love this!
Especially since you used the Hemnes bed, which I just purchased for my bedroom. While its not exactly a heirloom piece like the Borghese Dresser the selling point (and boy did it take some selling to my better half), was how great it would look re-imagined with a fresh coat of paint. I was thinking white, but your teal is super fun!
Wow — this is my favorite version I think. The teal bed owns me.
The wallpaper is perfect! I love these colors together, they’re beautiful!
Okay, I think I need you to move to Los Angeles and shop for me all day! This is sooooo up my alley. You did a beautiful job (as always…)
I’m in love.
oh, i just adore this! the colors are lovely.
I love love love this idea!!! You are so talented! I always leave your blog feeling inspired.
Spectacular! The yummy taupes and blues! I want to move right in!
Great choice in items for this room!!
I’m on a wallpaper hunt and that is just beautiful. I love these!
This is a really great feature and your mood boards are amazing. My question though is actually for Monica, who said she bought the Hemnes bed. I was also trying to talk my better half into buying it, but he convinced me it was way too flimsy. Monica, do you have the bed set up yet and are you using it? We found the posters to be really unstable. Was it just the floor model (my hope, because I really like it!) that creaked when you sat on it or touched the posters? I appreciate any feedback you or anyone has!
Thanks!
that wallpaper is absolutely gorgeous. so happy it’s from anthropologie. you’ve got some talent there girl!
Another homerun! Your eye for design is impeccable!
Love it!!!!!!!!
Sorry to hijack your blog nicole!!!, but to answer Jeni’s question…no, unfortunately my Hemnes bed is still sitting unassembled in our sitting room. I’ve been promised it will be put together when I return from a business trip Wednesday night, so I’m happy to check back with a report (or you can read the full saga on my blog…click my name for the link). Our ikea’s floor model was surprisingly sturdy (you gotta think about all the abuse those thing take) and I read good reviews on Apartment Therapy, so we’ll see. Fingers are crossed.
The only way ended up with the bed was my “better half” ending up with an iPhone :)
This is soooooo gorgeous! Amazing!
Your mood boards are brilliant – I’ve taken a leaf out of your book and am trying them at home
I want to move into this room right now. I have been lusting after several of those items!
