I think the Freida lamp would look great with the steps wool hooked rug, don’t you?
When I first saw the rug, I couldn’t decide if I liked it or not. I mentioned it on twitter and facebook, and the responses were pretty divided (with references to both Missoni and the Golden Girls). After thinking about it for a bit though, I’ve decided that I quite like it! Finding the lamp to go with the rug really helps pull the two together with a little style, albeit it a granny chic style.
What do you think? Love it or hate it?

I’m in love with the rug! I think it has bit of Southwestern flare to it mixed with 70s bohemian. Adding the perfect accents (I love the turquoise) will go a long way in making it fun and colorful!

I know I’m a little late in chiming in, but I love the rug! I think it is really cozy looking in a clean-lined kind of way. :)

Love the dog, hate the rug.
Caroline
Love! I guess it’s got a bit of granny chic in it, but then when you think that it looks like a Missoni pattern, it sort of changes your view.

I think this rug is fantastic because it gives great texture and pattern, but is still simple and versatile!
Nice job, well done.
holly
i love that rug! love missoni influenced anything. the lamp seems a little boring. i think a pop of color might make it more interesting? just me. thanks for the post!
Jessica
I just keep coming back here to look at the rug. Love, love love it!
Mandi
Love them both! Maybe because it’s winter and I am craving color? Whatever the case that rug is yummy!
Kiera
I have this rug in my entry/living room and LOVE it. The colors are so beautiful. It will look amazing with that lamp!
Tamara
LOVE it! Definitely Missoni…I’d have it in my own home office.
Natalie
LOVE both! The rug reminds me a lot of the wave crocheted blanket by Alicia at Posie Gets Cozy…too cute!
Jana
please do tell where u got the rug? I LUV it!!!
Maddie
I do love that carpet with the lamp. I’m a huge fan of fashion and design, and I thought of Missoni first..haha.
They would look splendid together!

Love love LOVE it! Not granny at all…well maybe a bit, but still love.

How cute would Eleanor look on that rug? I’d never have thought of putting that lamp with the rug but it’s a great choice. The diagonals of the two pieces work together and the biege stops the rug from getting too pretty pretty.
Cassandra
Love it! it just needs a couple of cocktails and some smooth sounds to elevate it to office iconic ( and maybe a friend to drink the second cocktail if you’re meant to be working )

I think the rug is very Sister Parish and I adore her. So I adore the rug.

LOVE it! but i’m a granny chic fiend. AND i love the bird dog sitting on the rug too!!

Company C has a very similar rug, but tufted…

Hello fellow Chicagoan! Just found your blog and I’m in love. The rug seems very you to be honest! Not that I know you… but based on what I’ve seen from your charming home. I think it’s great and want one for myself! But why are rugs SO expensive?!?! For now I have to stick to IKEA.
Cheers,
Alaina
Robyn
love it!!! im all abut granny chic. <3
Nicolette
TOTALLY diggin the rug. Definitely a Missoni vibe (which I happen to be very fond of). I think the colors and pattern will really help energize your work space! The lamp is cute. Don’t LOVE it but don’t have anything against it either.
Aimee
Golden Girls? That’s wicker, huge fake palm fronds, and yellow paint (I know my Golden Girls). That rug is love!
Christine
Go for it! Great find! Love the rug.

I’ve always seen that in order to pull off a look like ‘Granny Chic’ you need to balance it with something on the opposite side of the style scale – like with more modern or contemporary pieces. Which I’m sure you’ll do.
I love them both, and I think that it would totally work in your office! ;)
jen
Love the multi-colored chevron rug, after seeing the other rugs in your home, it would be a good fit. Though I could also see a different retro/ vintage pattern in your office to avoid a “theme” type situation based off of the rug in your living room.
Beth
Love them both!
Meredith
I love it! My husband has his parents first living room set, it is a vintage yellow sofa and chairs, I love it and am going to use it and this rug would look AMAZING…so thanks for the inspiration!!! I like the lamp as well.
Kimbydee
Love the two together. LOVE the colors in the rug, lamp is perfect with it…
I would NOT love the rug in brown-orange-gold combo which brings back visions of the only afghan my family ever owned. Hated the colors in it, always wondered who picked that awful combination of colors. ;o)

I love the rug, I’m definitely in the Missoni camp, not the granny one. I’m thinking of it for myself, in fact, although I’m having a hard time convincing my husband that we need a rug in the living room on top of the hardwood floors. Anyway, I’m not too thrilled with the lamp though. It’s, well, squat. And the color is blah, in my opinion, but then I don’t like those shades of gold.
Melissa
I LOVE them both!!!

I like the lamp, hate the rug. Where did u get the lamp?
Holly @ Lucitebox
I like the rug. It’s in keeping with something I suspect you like: bargello needlepoint pillows. It also seems thematically aligned with your Weinrib rug.
Condo Blues
I wasn’t too fond of the rug at first but the dog accessory makes it!
Shanon
I like ’em both. I love granny chic! =)
Nicole B.
Love them both…. I don’t think the chevrons look too granny in the right context.
Shrie >> Lo & Behold
I SOOO consider my style granny chic (usually more quirky than these items) but I love them! And I think they’ll go fab together. Throw in a slightly rustic/kitschy piece of wall art and you’ve got a look lady!
Sandy
Love it! The rug does in fact have the same color as the lamp base. Very chic!
Melinda
I love the rug – and by the way – where did you source the one in your living room? It is super too!
laura trevey
I love chunky lamps like this one!!
Nicole
I love the vintage modern feel of both. Are you planning on keeping the walls light pink? If so, how do you feel about the purchasing the lamp in white? Just a thought. I do love the mustard color but think the combo of the two would look better with a different wall color.
Laura A.
Not digging this design idea… sorry :(
Katie Stephenson
Love it! I actually bookmarked this rug after you tweeted it. I hope you get it so I can see it in your house and stalk a little bit. I wish it had 9×12 size, that’s the perfect size for my living room.
Paula

I love the rug and don’t hate the lamp. I think they’d look lovely together.

I like the lamp. I don’t *hate* the rug, but I can think of better things to spend my hard-earned money on. :)
jbhat
I vote YES on both. You have such a good eye!

I love it!! As I do your blog which I have just stumbled across.
I like the colours in it too.

Love it! Granny Chic is my favourite kind of chic! I think the lamp helps take the rug from plain old granny to granny chic by making it look more modern.
Karen
LOVE both.
Averill
I like it! Definitely more Missoni than granny in my book.
Sleeping Spot

I actually have the rug and I LOVE it!
Sealicious
LOVE IT!! I think the colors are soft enough to keep it “fresh”
Michelle
I like the lamp and the doggy!
Brigite
Officially converted. Love it!
Rebecce
love it!
Hilary
I like both the lamp and the rug. I think the rug can go lots of ways, though- depending on the furniture and wall color. I could see the rug adding some funk to a room that has a lot of clean lines, or giving a vintage feel to plain room.
I think it would look nice in your office.
Helen
LOVE it. It really is so Missoni.
viva cindy
I really like the rug, its like a great chevron afgan! and i can see it in your house!
i do agree with the above, that a white lamp shade would look nice. the shape of the lamp is too cool.
Sandy
I like it! If anyone can pull off grandma, it’s you!
The Maiden Metallurgist
Love it! It always amazes me the things you find that are so awesome. If I was doing the shopping i might walk right on by them and never notice.
Trina
This is a FABULOUS RUG, and totally suits you Nicole. LOVE IT!

I love this combo. I wouldn’t call it granny-ish – maybe a bit retro?
Rosaline
I don’t like either one. The lamp is boring and the rug has to much going on.
Caitlin
I like the rug, but it’s definitely a “I’d like it in someone else’s home but not mine” kind of way.
I’m not really keen on the lamp.
Kate
Oh sorry. Just read the post properly. I like the rug and the dog, not so keen on the lamp sorry :S
Kate
I like it and I like modern things
Danielle
See, now I think I like the rug and lamp. They go very well and both give off a very nice vintage flair. I even think a bit of contrast, like a chocolate brown, would go well with it!
Alicia
The lamp is great – and the German Shorthaired Pointer is even greater! But I’m not a fan of the rug.
Patrice
It’s very different, but I like it. If it weren’t for the lamp though, the rug would not work for me.
cat
Didn’t think I would like it, but really, I do. The colors make it look modern, not granny…
Vonnie
I love them both! I’m a big fan of bright colours and patterns so the rug is just gorgeous in my eyes :)
Barb F (Australia)
Love it! I’m definitely in the Missoni camp.
Michelle
That rug does not scream Golden Girls. It’s much to hip to have any link to anything granny. The colors are fantastic…so you!
Marie
Love the rug and the retro feel of the lamp, there’s nothing wrong with a bit of Granny Chic!
CreativeButterflyXOX
I think it’s pretty. Not sure if it would go with my decor though.
Samantha
I love the pairing. I think the rug does give off the ‘granny’ and ‘afghan’ vibe but in a very modern way. The colours are gorgeous together.
cindi
Love it!
Christie
I dig it, and especially love the lamp. But as mentioned above, where are they going?? :)
Making it Lovely
I’m thinking of putting them in my office.
Marissa
I love it
Jeni
I think it’s great! Definitely has a bit of a vintage vibe :)
puck
but where are they going??
Cristina
I can see where you’d get the “granny afghan look” but I think this rug looks really nice. The colors are totally you and I’m pretty sure you could make it work. :)
Lauren @thelittlethingswedo
i love both of these items…although i’m maybe a bit biased because i love me some granny chic :).
Catherine
I love them both together and I love accenting the mustard from the rug in the lamp; I just wish the rug was zigzag instead of steps. I think I’d have a hard time not trying to follow the step pattern across the room…and end up running into a chair!
Ashley
love the lamp! definitely updates the rug.
Amanda
Love it! Very cute. I love the combination too.
How Tweet It Is
I have to say I LOVE it and am jealous :) a great combination!
Your Mother
Love the rug and the lamp, but that is the funniest looking dog (the coloring of it) that I have ever seen. The head looks like it doesn’t match the body. Don’t get me wrong, love dogs but that one looks funky!
sarah
Totally love the lamp, I think the rug is great, as long as it has something other than a dog on top to tone down the zig zag.
Judi
Love the rug and the lamp.
Michele
Love it too! where are you going to put it?
Making it Lovely
Maybe in my office.
Jessi
