Pin an award to your lapel! I did this today, inspired by my own style post, and it’s making me very happy.
I won this award 20 years ago when I played clarinet in the fourth grade. It says:
Illinois Grade School
Solo
Music Ass’n
Do you know how funny an award that says “Ass’n” is to a fourth grader? I still think it’s funny.

That IS funny. And my oh my. You look absolutely STUNNING in that photo.
haha! not very well thought out by the maker. perhaps if they knew you’d still be sporting it to this day, they’d have put a little more thought into it! very cute :o)
I thought that medal looked familiar! I got a bunch of those in my elementary school violin-playing days!
Cute accessory! It almost looks like a war metal! lol…Ass’n…
haha cute :)
I recognized that medal-style, too! Ours (in Florida) are a little different but there’s no mistaking a Solo/Ensemble medal :)
Great idea!
Alas, I don’t have any pretty little awards :(
giggles ;)
Great Picture of you! Sexy!
Ooohhh great idea! I have medals from time served overseas. I may have to try this out. So clever and fun.
I have several medals like that as well from an Illinois elementary school. :) Now the question is where are they now?
I recognize that dress! I went out and bought it today at lunch, having seen it here last week. Chic and springy!
That’s hilarious! May I ask what color the eye shadow is you’re wearing. It’s so pretty!
MAC shale, with purple eyeliner.
I’d love to know what makeup you use too! Besides just the eye shadow, I mean.
Love it!
Love this post – definitely made me laugh out loud!! :)
Now I want to go out and buy a medal to pin on my cardigan. I am crazy about brooches and pins of all sorts so this idea is just to cute.
Love it! Now, do I go with chorus or perfect attendance?!
I was just thinking about doing something like this the other day. My mom still has my old Girl Scouts paraphernalia, and I really want to put the badges and pins on my bag and coat.
Nicole you look stunning! and that pin is just too cute!
i have a few of those ;) i should dig them out
That was a good laugh right there!
I have a ton of those music pins too! haha Hilarious
That’s hilarious! As a kid I was afraid that I might mysteriously drop dead in class after writing the “ass” part of “assignment” and everyone would think I was terrible. So, I would always write the “ass” part really quickly just in case…
Haha!
That is too funny. Ass’n pin. I remember back in the 80s, us boys in L.A. used to wear these strange medal pins ala the new romantic movement. It was an interesting time back then for sure for fashion.
that’s a hoot – i find that pretty funny and i’m way past 4th grade.
Your hair is looking particularly cool!!
jules
I love the medal. I need to find some.
I have the same medal for the same thing! (I’m also in the western suburbs!). Though I have to admit, I’m not sure what I did with the medals and my clarinet is MIA, too? We should all send you photos of ourselves wearing ours! Too funny! Such a fun, cute blog! I’ll definitely be back…
This post made me go put eyeshadow on.
What kind of camera are you using?
Canon Powershot G10.
I was just about to ask about your camera and saw that Ashley beat me to it! I’m sitting at my dining room table with my brand spankin’ new G11 in front of me. :)
Love the medal. Too cool for school.
You’re tilting profile is adorable. Love the hair.
I meant “your tilting profile.” That’ll teach me to proof before I hit submit. Or not.
Your inside beauty shines through here . . . genuine and lovely.
Neat pin and great idea. Way to stir up old memories. Cool!
It’s sweet and funny!
Excuse-moi, but did you lose a 100 pounds or so? :-) You look marvelous!
Haha, so cute!
You look GORGEOUS in this photo. Like a model.
You are very lucky. All I won in my life was a box of tictacs. That too i cheated. LOL. BTW. You are a hot one. And whats with the medal of honor badge?
i really love your hair in this photo. i wish i could see more! and i’m in total love with that pin. better lock your doors so i don’t come and swipe it! ;)
[…] I’ve said it before. Awards look mighty fine pinned to your lapel (or cardigan, or shirt, or what-have-you). […]
