- I still like the idea of owning chickens. Especially when I see a beautiful coop like this one. Plus I know how to hard-boil an egg now! Yay for my rudimentary cooking skills.

- Dooce wants chickens too, but I think she’s happy right now with her new living room.
- Victoria’s new design launched, with help from Anna and Shanna. Well done, ladies.
- Pretty table setting ideas. (via Creature Comforts)
- I am all over the friendship bracelet resurgence! Eleanor isn’t quite up to task yet, but she can string a mean beaded bracelet.
I also write for Babble’s Family Style blog. Here’s what I’ve been sharing there…
- Hi. These are rad. And all written like this. But not in an annoying way.
- The best notebooks! Also, one of my neuroses is revealed.
- I wish Gus were big enough for these.
- Such cute little barrettes. I like the milk carton and the days of the week.
- This is sand!? No way. It’s so beautiful!

Thanks for the coop mention! I love my coop. I’m looking at my coop right now. I kindda wish I could live in my coop. But then I remember I’m not a chicken. I highly recommend getting chickens by the way. They’re very soothing, except when they scream at the top of their lungs and you’re afraid the neighbours are going to complain. ~ karen
Highly recommend getting chicks too! We have two, although no eggs yet (they are still young-ish). They are loads of fun & not as messy or stinky as people make them sound to be. Bonus, kids love them. :)
My husband taught me the best way to hard boil eggs… you put them in the water and bring it to boiling, then you turn it off with the lid on, and leave it sit for 15 minutes. Easy-peasy! They always turn out perfectly and never get that weird grey on the yolk.
My husband taught me that, too!
Martha Stewart has a GREAT hard boiled egg “recipe.” Put your eggs in a pot and cover with water. Bring the water to a boil over high heat. Let the eggs boil for 1 minute. Remove the pot from the heat and cover with lid. Let sit for 13 minutes. Dump the hot water out and fill with cold running water until the eggs cool.
The yolks stay bright yellow (not gray) and the whites stay tender. The shells come off easily, too. (Hint: Gently crack the shells against the sides of your sink then run cold water over the egg as you peel. It helps the shell separate from the white without damaging the white.)
***THAT’S*** a chicken coop???? Insane. My house needs a chicken coop makeover.
You should throw $5 at one of those egg-dicator thingies. You put it in the pot of boiling water along with your eggs and it shows you how ‘done’ the egg is.
My parents have had this one for years. Works like a champ!

I think the eggs should come out hard boiled from that fabulous coop!!
I need a new house before our chickens get one that nice. haha. We have three chickens and their eggs are delicious! Last night some of our friends were commenting that eggs aren’t that expensive (true) but it’s a good experience raising them. :)
Check out this. Definitely will help with boiled eggs (and cute too!)

cutest chicken coop ever!
Hard boiled eggs are the best! First thing I ever learned to cook. Link to my eggy secrets (I second the Martha recipe) and how to cut eggs into perfect tiny square dice. My boy is Eleanor’s age and he loves little egg sandwiches. He likes to line up all the squares and squish them in his fingers. Also recipe for the best deviled eggs E.V.E.R.

Why bother peeling an egg at all? I found a gadget that lets you have hard boiled eggs without ever dealing with the shell. Eggies Reviews
That chicken coup is amazing!
I love that coop! I remember reading you post on coops before anddaydreaming about chickens then. But now I live in the country and have no neighbors. I think we’re going to get some this Spring. But we’ll build our own coop – as gorgeous as those coops are, they are pricey! For me, it’s less about saving money and more about having a steady supply of eggs that I know were raised humanely. And love chickens! I can’t wait to pick some out! Have you seen Mother Earth News’ chicken breed app?
I cheat and use this little thing egg timer from Crate & Barrel…http://www.crateandbarrel.com/kitchen-and-food/thermometers-timers/egg-timer/s353892
Those sand pictures BLEW MY MIND. Incredible!!
I learned how to boil the perfect egg from Martha Stewart. Cover eggs in cold tap water in pot and set to boil uncovered. Once water comes to a full boil, turn off flame, cover pot and set aside for 10 minutes. Works every time.
