I never know how to pose for pictures, let alone pictures of me in my roller derby gear. Angry face? Tried it. I’m not tough! So a wink it is. *Wink!*

I’m such a dork.

  • Love this shot! It’s so fun! I just had to leave my Florida team (Emerald Coast Roller Derby) to move out of state. I miss it so much!

  • very pretty, nicole and for what it’s worth, you look mighty tough!

  • I wasn’t sure you could get any cooler, but you are!
    Go derby!

    It’s official; I think you’re awesome!

AH! This picture is perfect. I love the wink. And good on ya for being such a bad ass Roller Girl!

  • I’ll admit that I’m not cut out to be a roller derby princess but my inner goddess TOTALLY WISHES I WERE. Oh and I am SERIOUSLY COVETING THE TIGHTS. You look fabulous!

  • I am obsessed with you. You are darling x infinity.

Okay, I feel like an idiot, but I have to ask about your name. I’m assuming it’s some kind of play on words, but I can’t figure out what it’s referring to? (I have a feeling I’m going to feel really dumb once it’s explained…)

  • Nothing wrong with being dorkie.
I make my bout debut this weekend and I’m so excited.
    How’s your training?

    • A

I’m not getting better as quickly as I’d like, but I can’t devote more than once a week to it (and I’ve missed some weeks lately too).

  • Leone

But you’re such a cute dork and DORKS RULE!

AWESOME! I’ve been following your blog since before you had Eleanor, and I LOVE that you’re playing derby now. Isn’t it amazing? :)

  • Now see.. I just don’t get it.

You do look cute as all get out, but I don’t get the whole roller derby thing. It seems like a lot of aggression to me.

    • A

I like a little competition now and then, more than aggression. But we don’t scrimmage much — I’m focused on improving my skating skills.

  • Love love love. I wish I had the guts to do roller derby!

  • That’s awesome! I love those hot pink tights!

  • Kristin

You look great! I love the tights.

  • You are a rockin dork!

  • Danielle

My mom always said, kill em with kindness. So the wink works lol.

  • How awesome was the World Cup? With personal friends and team mates in Team Australia, it made it extra exciting.

Love the picture! I think the wink works. I usually go for a half smile/smirk in my headshots.

I always look like such a dork in game pictures. Either my mouth is open and all you can see is mouth guard or the photographer catches me in mid-blink.

Did you get a chance to watch the final game in the World Cup yesterday? Although Team USA spanked Team Canada, I’m still really proud of the way my country’s team played.

I took my mouth guard out for the pictures! I saw some of the early bouts, but I wasn’t able to catch the final ones. I bet it was great fun to watch.

  • So cute! The wink works!

  • I’m with Erin; you look just like your daughter–or more accurately, I can really see that she looks like you when I look at this picture.

  • AWESOME! Hey dorks of the world unite! You have fabulous design with the occasional roller derby, Storm Troopers and zombie-attack wedding photos thrown in. What more could you ask for in a blog?

Love it, I do! (there’s some Yoda for ya.)

BTW, my fourteen-year-old son has determined that Home Depot is the best place to be in a zombie apocalypse just so you’re prepared… Now that I think of it, you could have an interesting roller-derby in Home Depot too…

  • what an awesome alter ego!

  • Love it! Even the track is pink to match.

  • You look so much like Eleanor in this picture!

  • Um, you don’t have to have a tough face, when you are in roller derby! That’s intimidation enough, in my mind. :)

  • a bone crunching, elbow bashing, floor shredding dork. I totally love it! What a great alter ego!

  • I LOVE this picture! You look great. Fun tights too.

    That name is he-larious.

  • You look awesome. I love the wink. It makes the picture look like a lot of fun.

  • Love it! You look fantastic.

One of my clients is an original flat track rollergirl from Austin, TX. She wrote the book Rollergirl: Totally True Tales From the Flat Track. She’s PERFECTED the mean tough face (but is in reality a total sweetheart).
