My Sister’s Bridal Shower

My sister, Ashley, is getting married in September! Here she is with her fiancé, Matt, and a couple of very unevenly matched balloons.

Womp, womp, little blue balloon.

Their bridal shower was held at my house, and Ashley’s best friend, Sarah, co-hosted the party. We had about twenty five guests, but the photos in my post will focus on the decor and details.

Bridal Shower Paper Fans Decorations

I made a display out of paper fans (some that I already owned, and some that were new) to go above the fireplace, and spelled out “Ashley and Matt” with Rifle Paper garland.

I also wanted to do a honeycomb garland, and Jordan offered to send over supplies from the Oh Happy Day Shop (along with the giant Geronimo balloon and Ashley’s “Future Mrs.” headband). I used giant 19″ honeycombs and the tutorial used much smaller ones, so I bought chain instead of string for support. It was helpful for keeping everything in place while adding each piece too, since with string they would have wanted to slide down toward the center.

Sisters! Ashley and Nicole

Brandon bought a couple of dry-erase comic book speech bubbles a few years ago. I’ve used them before at a baby shower photo shoot, but now we got to use them for real! We asked guests to write their best marriage advice for the couple, then snap a photo with it. Here’s Sarah, my co-host.

We had lunch, and then bam, four hundred and forty two desserts.

Queen and pincushion proteas with eucalyptus were a nod to the flowers for the upcoming wedding, along with green trick and little wildflowers.

I made the bridal shower bow bouquet, as one does at these things. I am sure my sister will forever cherish my creation.

Cheers to the happy couple! Everyone had a great time, and we’re all looking forward to the wedding!

  • Lovely party and a great post, Nicole. I love seeing how you tackle throwing a party. Congratulations to your sister and future brother-in-law. She looked beautiful.

One more thing ….. wanted to ask about the chocolate drizzle cake. Can I purchase in Chicago? Ohmygosh. Need a slice, or 2! ; )) All my life, I’ve loved (any) cake. Especially wedding varieties!

So lovely and pretty Nicole! You really know how to plan and throw a marvelous party! Ashley’s guests/invites = lucky-ducks. Ha! Wedding will be something to look forward to! P.S. Why oh why there are always crabby complainers is beyond me. Some folks (females can be awfully mean) nitpick for zero reasons.

    *coughs* Dirty stairs.

Holy moly, remind me not to invite you over!!

Yep. I swept them the day before but didn’t have time to do it again right before the party. Hopefully our guests weren’t as judging of a few wind-blown leaves!

The decorations are so fun! What dresses are you and your sister wearing? It’s kind of hard to see the details. Is that a bow on yours?

I know, the photos with me in them were taken with someone’s phone, so they’re a bit grainy. Ashley’s dress was from Target and mine was from Ann Taylor.

What a beautiful shower! If it’s not too much trouble, where did you find those delightful male and female busts!? Are they both vases?

The party decor is amazing! Would you mind sharing where you bought the little streamers hanging from the big balloon?

Wonderful bridal shower and nice & simple decor! Congratulations to the happy couple!

  • Using a chain instead of string for a heavier “banner” is so brilliant! What was the chain anchored to? Anytime I tape up the ends of string it tends to fall down or just not look pretty.

I have a bar across the bookshelves for the library’s rolling ladder, so I tied the chain at each end. I’ve hidden screw eyes along the tops of windows and doors before though to hang decorations. You can’t see them unless you’re up on a ladder looking, so I would just leave them there year round and they’d be ready for each party.

  • What a beautiful bride! Her smile really lets us know that you’re sisters. Congrats to Ashley and Matt! (Lovely party, too..especially in the Victorian setting.)

How do 25 guests eat 442 desserts (or are you counting individual jelly beans)? The party looks absolutely splendid.

    • A

Individual jelly beans! Ha. We had two 8″ cakes, 6 mini fruit tarts, plus cookies and candies. Too much really, but I always err on the side of too much food (and dessert) than not enough.

  • Beautiful shower!! I love all of the fans above the fireplace!
