Red and Light Blue Bedrooms

I hastily got some paint on the walls in August’s room a couple of years ago. Green walls and a green quilt to match, and that was kind of the extent of the decorating I did. It bothered me far more than it bothered him though — he thought his room was just fine. It had his toys and a bed to sleep in! All set.

Every so often though, he’d bring it up. “I want my room to be red!” I got a red desk for him along with a couple of red table lamps, but he wanted more. And I wanted his room to be less Christmas-colored. I had a whole plan in place to paint the walls red per his request (I would have made it work), but lately he’s been adding light blue to his wish list. Hey now! Red and light blue are great together.

Yep, this is a color palette I could definitely work with. I’ve already begun changing the room, prepping and painting the doors and trim, and getting a fresh coat of paint on the ceiling. I’m reusing most of the existing furniture and accessories, but bringing in enough of the new to make a big change and we’re pretty excited about the direction the room is heading in.

My first house had blue walls and coral red trim in the bed and living rooms with a blue/green feature wall. The bathrooms, kitchen and laundry were sunshine yellow (the bathrooms had blue tiles)!. These inspiration photos are much nicer!

  • Amazing color combination. Red and blue makes it wonderful combination.

  • Loved your color sense, the red and light blue appears as a great color combination. Great idea of using the blue swordfish in the bedroom, it looks stunning on the wall.

  • I’d love to know how you are able to paint rooms and have children living in the house. Painting is my enemy.

  • This is one of my favorite color combinations – my daughter’s room started out more blue as a nursery, but we’ve incorporated more red as she’s gotten older, and her room has really adapted with her. Now she’s off to high school next week – yikes!

These feel so classic but fresh! I love the direction you’re heading.

  • Love it! Pale blue and red is such a perfect combo for a little boy’s room. I can’t wait to see what you do with it!
