The Basement Drywall is Done

Remember the drywall photos from last week? Here’s what the walls are looking like today.

So much more finished! The trim is starting to go in today too. Hooray for more progress!

  • So exciting! I cannot wait to see what you have up your sleeve for the decor. It’s going to look amazing!

  • it’s already looking so NOT scary anymore. yay! i am super pumped about the reveal. (obviously not as much as you, but still!)

Fun! It’s getting closer. Have you decided on what type of flooring you’ll have? We are in the process of finishing our basement and I’m stuck on what type of flooring to go with.

D’oh! You said the half bath ceiling is 6’5″ in, like, the last post. I’m an idiot. Sorry :(

  • Katie

You may have already said this elsewhere but how high is your basement ceiling? Trying to figure out how low a ceiling one can get away with before it’s not worth finishing a basement anymore…

  • I’m excited for you. I can’t wait to see what you do with the space. :)

  • Yay! It looks great! I can’t wait to see it all come together!

so jealous! so far so good!

  • Hi I just discovered your blog and I am so excited. I can’t wait to see the basement transform!

  • Looks SO GOOD. Have you a color palette in mind? Pinks?

    • A

I think my studio will be pink, but I’m not sure yet about the rest of the space! I’m thinking of painting the floor a fun color too.

  • Jason

Great progress! Did you level your basement floor? If so, how did you do it? Thanks!

    • A

Yes. We didn’t do it — the contractor had someone come in to do it. The floor was ground down in the high spots and later was filled in with some sort of self-leveling stuff.

  • I cannot begin to express how jealous I am right now!! Are you going to share expenses? If not, I totally understand. I just wouldn’t have a clue how much an undertaking such as this would cost but I would love to know because it’s an option in our house!

    • A

I haven’t decided yet. If I do, I’ll share in a recap when the construction is finished.

      • A

No, the contractor is putting in the trim. He’s fine with us doing as much or as little as we want though, as long as it’s not the code-related stuff (electrical, plumbing, etc.).

      • Kelsey

I’m really curious as to the costs…it sounds like you have a contractor who is letting you do some things on your own also (trimwork)…is that pretty unusual?

    Hooray!

I cannot wait to see the finished project! I am so proud of yall because this is such a huge undertaking and you are conquering it!

  • This tip is probably too late but you will save yourself a load of time if you prime and paint your trim before installing it. Then all you have to do is touch up the holes where the nails are.
Also, you won’t need to tape anything. Paint your walls then install the trim.

    • A

Thanks, but I actually find it easier to paint the trim on the wall! I don’t tape when painting so that’s probably why. Our trim is pre-primed too, so that helps.

  • It’s looking so good!

  • Carole

Nice! How long will your project take? Thinking about our basement and wondering what to expect for the time line…

    • A

Um, four weeks? Starting at the beginning of November? Yeah. I knew that was unrealistic, but I think we’re about ten weeks in at this point with probably another two to go.

      • Carole

Ten weeks. Holy cow. How did you find your contractor? I am freaked out about someone being in my house for that long while construction is going on (my husband and I both work outside of the home). Oh well. I guess I am going to have to get over it.

  • Oh, nice! I’m excited to see the end result!

  • Looks great! Is the construction noise bothersome at all (I’m wondering, since you have a little one at home)?

    • A

It hasn’t been too bad. Some days are a little unnerving for Eleanor at first, but once she’s used to it (after ten minutes or so), she’s fine. You would think it would help to have her nursery on the second floor, but the sound travels throughout the whole house pretty well.

  • LOOKS GREAT!!!!! oh Nicole, I am so inspired by u :)

  • Wow! Things are really taking shape! How exciting this must be!!

  • Yay! That is so exciting. I’m so excited to see this space when it is complete, I can only imagine the anticipation you feel.
