  • New Marimekko Shop

    New Marimekko Shop

Crate & Barrel has created a Marimekko shop-in-shop at the Chicago location, and I was invited today to check it out. Everything was just as bright and fun as you’d imagine. There were a lot of blues and greens, but you know me… drawn to pink every time.

Marimekko likes to reduce waste and reuse as much as possible. We made necklaces out of jersey scraps, leftover from the manufacturing of their clothing.

I also modified the necklace I was wearing (thanks to Barri’s genius input).

There will eventually be twenty of these shops across the country over the next three years, but everything is available online too. Well, everything except my necklaces. And the Marimekko fabric by the yard. (Oh, how I loved the fabric.)

I just ordered this colorful tablecloth (on clearance) for Eleanor’s birthday party.
    (Thanks, Ash, for the tip!)

The downside to having a wallpapered dining room? Awesome tablecloths like this one clash. Bummer.

  • Wallpaper for Eleanor’s ‘Big Girl’ Room

Wallpaper for Eleanor’s ‘Big Girl’ Room

I am in love with this bedroom for two little girls.

I think we’re going to move Eleanor straight into a regular bed when the time comes, even though those MINNEN toddler beds from IKEA are pretty cute. The wallpaper though? Love.

My dining room is wallpapered in Mibo’s Clackett Lane, but before I decided to go with that pattern I had actually bought several rolls of a vintage design on eBay. I didn’t use it for Eleanor’s nursery (obviously), but I have been planning to work it into her ‘big girl’ room when she’s ready. I’ve already used some of the wallpaper to line the drawers of Eleanor’s dresser that I painted pink, but there is still plenty left.

I know the style is much more vintage and less graphic than the Marimekko Unikko flowers, but here’s another wallpapered wall that’s more similar in style. This has been one of my favorite rooms for a long time, even in spite of the color palette (which is lovely, but I’m not a big fan of blue).

Can’t you just picture it? I’m not ready to start on another room project quite yet, but it’s so much fun to think about. I adore working on nurseries and kids’ rooms. I need to get Smart & Lovely (my design service) up and running so that I can do more of them!

  • The Guest Room Won’t Be Finished.

The Guest Room Won’t Be Finished.

Yep. I’ve been sick, and I wasn’t able to do much with the guest room. Brandon and I did get all of the junk out that had accumulated in there, so at least it will be clean. The daybed will be delivered tomorrow, which is when Lili will be arriving. She will have a place to sleep, hurrah!

Even though the room won’t be finished in time for our first guest, I’m still thinking about how to decorate it. I haven’t picked a paint color yet, but I think I’d like to go with either a light creamy beige or a silvery gray color. I need to find curtains before I decide.

I like the scroll flocked curtains from west elm. Nice, right?

I’m also pretty keen on the Lumimarja Natural fabric from Marimekko. Swoon.

At first I thought the Marimekko fabric was too spendy, but I just realized that it would be about the same price as the west elm curtains. Hmmm.

Oh, and I also bought a little side table from Target.

Back to fabric… I’m thinking more and more about plunking down the money for the Marimekko design. Any other suggestions before I purchase? I’d like there to be a bit of orange in the pattern.
