I like the mix of dressy and casual in this one. A red pencil skirt and sexy shoes are dressed down with a slouchy dolman-sleeved tee and an unstructured leather tote. I’d wear this outfit with my hair pulled back in a low ponytail, a pair of oversized glasses, and a couple of bracelets. Easy, but pulled together.

This is a prettier version of what I’ve been wearing lately. I wrote about that top on Babble not long ago, and I’m still loving it. It’s nursing friendly, and I like to wear it tucked into a skirt (though it looks great over jeans too). The top calls for a long necklace, and a leather belt polishes the look when the shirt is tucked in. Metallic flats are another way to add some polish (why go for basic black?), and I’d add a little gold ring too. Finally, I’d carry a big red bag to keep things interesting with a bold color. And add red lipstick. And liquid eyeliner. Done.

I think I need to step it up a little around here. The tailored skirt and belt are really all I’m missing from this outfit (I have reasonable facsimiles for the rest), but compared to the lazy jersey skirt I’ve been wearing, they make all the difference. I haven’t been buying much clothing over the last three years, other than some necessary maternity wear, because my body has been in a constant state of change. First I was pregnant, then I was nursing for over a year and I lost the baby weight plus twenty pounds, but then I turned right around and got pregnant again. Now I’m nursing again, but carrying some extra weight and feeling chubby. I hadn’t been particularly inspired by fashion recently, but it feels nice to look nice and I would love that skirt and belt in the size I am now.

    Matte Gold Sequin Skirt

I have a whole (imaginary) outfit planned around this one. Long white cardigan, pink blouse with some sort of detail (ruffles, bow, or tie) at the neck, plum tights, and red heels.

I think sweater vests are terribly cute, especially this striped red one with a simple white t-shirt underneath. A black pencil skirt and low red heels make the vest seem more feminine, and the little librarian pin is a cute touch. The yellow resin necklace is a quirky addition (I actually bought it recently and I’ve been wearing it nonstop), and the yellow clutch finishes off the outfit.

I couldn’t find an option for the vest, so I’d go with something different like this button front shirt paired with a black maternity pencil skirt.

  • Who Makes a Skirt Like This?

I wanted to work on the June style post, but I can’t find the skirt that I wanted to include.

Somebody blogged about some skirts recently (within the last 2 weeks or so), and they were from a smaller, independent shop. They were all different, but most had a design going vertically down the front center. I thought I remembered some owls or another sort of folksy pattern… Oh, and they came in lots of sizes (up to 3X for many styles).

Anybody have any clue what I’m thinking of?
