    Look Hoo I Found

I’ve had a vintage owl cookie jar for a few years, and I move it around the house from time to time. Sometimes it’s in the living room on an end table, sometimes it’s on the buffet in the dining room. Other times it’s hanging out in my office or in the library upstairs. (It gets around.) Oddly enough, it’s rarely in the kitchen and has never been used for cookies.

If you want a little owl friend of your own, you can usually find some quirky old ones on eBay, but it can be hard to find a simple, white one. I noticed this new one though, and I think it’s a good stand-in for a vintage find. Maybe it could even fulfill its intended purpose and safeguard your cookies?

    Chromatic Typewriter

Amazing! This is a conceptual piece by artist. Tyree Callahan, who modified a typewriter by replacing the keys with pads of color.

p.s. Check out another artist’s take on a different ‘type’ of typewriter art.

    New Old-Fashioned Technology

I love the look of vintage technology. The ability to fix up old electronics however is not among the skills that I possess. Luckily there are plenty of new items that have the same styling as the classic old pieces. Here are four of my current favorites.

    1. Robers Revival Radio
    2. Retro Flip Clock
    3. Allaire Desk Fan
    4. Crosley Princess Phone

Do you have any similar new/old tech pieces in your home? I have three vintage-style phones: a red one in the bedroom (from Pottery Barn), a white one in my office (by Crosley), and a wall-mounted white one in the kitchen (also by Crosley). It’s sort of surprising that I don’t have that pink one though, eh?

    Vintage Cups and Saucers

My mother-in-law moved back to Oak Park from Des Moines, Iowa last year. She downsized, going from living in a large home to a small condo… plus fourteen thousand storage units that she is now renting.

She’s working on getting rid of a few.

We, along with Brandon’s sisters, have been the beneficiaries of said downsizing. Sometimes the stuff is a little odd (she has an extensive collection of fake food), but sometimes it is awesome. Like these vintage cups and saucers (a set of twelve).

    Vintage Cup and Saucer

She thought I might like them because they seemed like my style, and they reminded her of our living room chair. She was right. Aren’t they fantastic?

Also, I just got this email from her today:

I noticed somewhere on the blog something about “what do you do with 150 yardsticks?” We have a similar amount of antique ones, some with very entertaining ad slogans on them. When we get our act together, we are making a wainscoting (vertical placement) in the powder room here. (The one with the tree stump sink.) They will look awesome and will provide for some good reading for visitors, seated or standing.

She’s referring to this tweet, but there are three things that stand out here.

    1. She is in possession of 150 antique yardsticks. (Please refer to the earlier mention of fourteen thousand storage units.)

    2. “tree stump sink”

    3. She is conscientiously thinking of both genders when designing her bathroom.

    My mother-in-law is pretty great.

Hoping for a Vintage Porch Swing

I found a porch swing on Craigslist that I really like, but someone beat me to it. It looks a little something like this:

I’m crossing my fingers hoping the other person doesn’t pick it up! I’ve been looking for weeks and this was the first swing I actually liked.
