Wallpaper for Eleanor’s ‘Big Girl’ Room

I am in love with this bedroom for two little girls.

I think we’re going to move Eleanor straight into a regular bed when the time comes, even though those MINNEN toddler beds from IKEA are pretty cute. The wallpaper though? Love.

My dining room is wallpapered in Mibo’s Clackett Lane, but before I decided to go with that pattern I had actually bought several rolls of a vintage design on eBay. I didn’t use it for Eleanor’s nursery (obviously), but I have been planning to work it into her ‘big girl’ room when she’s ready. I’ve already used some of the wallpaper to line the drawers of Eleanor’s dresser that I painted pink, but there is still plenty left.

I know the style is much more vintage and less graphic than the Marimekko Unikko flowers, but here’s another wallpapered wall that’s more similar in style. This has been one of my favorite rooms for a long time, even in spite of the color palette (which is lovely, but I’m not a big fan of blue).

Can’t you just picture it? I’m not ready to start on another room project quite yet, but it’s so much fun to think about. I adore working on nurseries and kids’ rooms. I need to get Smart & Lovely (my design service) up and running so that I can do more of them!

Be still my heart. Did you see that Amy Butler is coming out with a line of wallpaper with Graham & Brown? Looks like I’m going to need to find another room that needs wallpapering.

    Feelin Groovy FLOR

Remember this? Our dining room FLOR is finally down (Feelin Groovy in Pewter).

    Dining Room

I think it looks a little too blue.

We’re keeping it because I haven’t found anything better*, it was cheap, and we need a rug in the space. I like the bare wood floor, but our dog Murray would disagree. He has no traction and has already suffered the consequences of slipping badly (he’s fully recovered now). Oh, and he likes to eat his treats while standing on a carpet (he’s odd). When we had the bare floors he would go from the kitchen through the dining room and end up in the living room on the zigzag rug. We can’t have that, now can we?

    * OK, there was one rug that I liked better: JORUN from IKEA. But it only comes in 5’x8′ and I don’t think two of them together would be as seamless as I’d like. Plus I don’t think it would be wise to add yet another pattern to the main area of our home… even though it would look excellent with the wallpaper.

  • Breakfast Nook (MIY: Real Good Chair)

Making it Yours (MIY) is all about using the furniture you have in new ways and taking pieces with you throughout your life. The first edition of MIY followed a piece of furniture (the Borghese Dresser) through an imagined life over many years. This time I’m doing it a little differently. A set of four chairs (Blu Dot’s Real Good Chair) will be making the move from a house with a breakfast nook to a new house without. The chairs will be split up and reassigned to a home office, a bedroom, a bathroom, and an entryway.

    Making it Yours: Breakfast Nook

I’m a little in love with my wallpaper at the moment, so I chose Mibo’s Clacket Lane Wallpaper in cream for this room. Wouldn’t a little wallpapered breakfast nook off of a vintagey kitchen be adorable? I certainly think so.

The room has wood floors and a wood table, so to break up all of the brown, Charcoal Fedora Flor Carpet Tiles would be nice (and inexpensive). More dark accents are added in the Metropolitan Wall Clock and 365+ Brasa Lamp. And finally, a gorgeous Large Coper Bowl from jillrosenwald is added to complete the room.

Next up? We’ll see the chair in a home office.

    The Wallpapered Dining Room

I love it. It’s exactly what I’ve wanted since we first decided to buy this house, and I even chose one of the wallpapers I was originally considering.

Here’s a completely empty ‘before’ shot:

And a nice ‘after’ to compare it to:
    Wallpapered Dining Room

Wallpapering a house that’s almost 100 years old (while being five months pregnant) wasn’t exactly the easiest project we’ve done. I wouldn’t say that it was hard, just very time-consuming. It probably took us about 15 hours, but we’re so proud of the job we’ve done.

I had ordered 4 yards of pink upholstery fabric on eBay for $10, so I used that on the chairs and along the back of the built-in hutch.

I love the way the living and dining rooms work together.

Almost Done in the Dining Room

    Wallpaper in Progress

That photo is from a few days ago. We’ve actually finished wallpapering now, but I still need to recover the chairs. We also need new outlet covers and switchplates, and I’d like to change the fabric in the built-in hutch. Ideally, I would like the ceiling and the area above the picture rail to be painted, but that probably won’t happen right now. I’d also like a new rug, but that’s something else that can wait.
