Crate & Barrel has created a Marimekko shop-in-shop at the Chicago location, and I was invited today to check it out. Everything was just as bright and fun as you’d imagine. There were a lot of blues and greens, but you know me… drawn to pink every time.
Marimekko likes to reduce waste and reuse as much as possible. We made necklaces out of jersey scraps, leftover from the manufacturing of their clothing.
I also modified the necklace I was wearing (thanks to Barri’s genius input).
There will eventually be twenty of these shops across the country over the next three years, but everything is available online too. Well, everything except my necklaces. And the Marimekko fabric by the yard. (Oh, how I loved the fabric.)

May 6, 2011 at 8:38 amSo jealous! I’ve been checking out their new stuff online and wishing that our local C&B would get its own mini-shop. Did you get a chance to check out their bags? I’m loving the http://bit.ly/lPWR7M but wish I could see it in person before I take the plunge!

May 6, 2011 at 9:13 amYes. Extremely lovely. I love the handbag with the interlocking black and cream prism designs. I will also want the pillow with the black round patches. But before I go, I am going to express my desire for the cream, patterned fabric (4th from top). It will be a perfect summer dress with low hell shoes and a hobo bag for shopping.

Did you know that you can get Marimekko fabric dirt cheap at the C&B Outlet on Clybourn? I so hope this doesn’t change that!!
