Riveting… If You’re Me

I gave Brandon a Flip video camera for our anniversary, but of course I’m using it too. We are going to have so many videos of Eleanor that are only of interest to me, Brandon, and perhaps our mothers. I promise not to bore you with all of them, though I can’t say I’ll have the same restraint over on flickr.

Here’s one such example. I find it utterly charming, even though Eleanor basically just lays there and occasionally bats at a toy for well over a minute.

The fact that she’s interested in toys now is both good and bad. Good, because she’s becoming more expressive and more like an actual little person! Bad, because now in addition to wondering if she’s crying because she’s hungry, wet, or tired, we can add crying out of boredom to the list.

    Ohhhh…it’s not just you.

Babies (especially our own, but pretty much all babies) are mesmerizing for us girls. We’re hard-wired to love them.

I’v got hours (no, literally, HOURS) of tape of my niece learning to roll over onto her tummy from four years ago. It was so exciting when she discovered she could do it herself!

Thanks for posting this. It’s fun to watch El, plus we get to hear what you sound like – a voice to put with the face!

She is too cute! It’s great that she is already batting at objects at such a young age. I have a 7-month-old and trust me that play mat is going to be an asset for quite some time!

She is so, so tiny…looks like you are enjoying the pure simplicity of each moment. I’m enjoying watching this little one grow each week. Is she my second cousin??? Finn is now 9 months and a loud, boisterous boy, full of laughs. Looking forward to meeting her soon.

Our daughter loved that play mat for ages and that was her favorite hanging toy (the “ringing” duck) as well. We found it less annoying that a lot of the jangly baby toys so we were happy she liked that one the best. Congratulations and I keep voting for you (or rather, E!)

She is so beautiful! Okay, that camera, so inexpensive but the video quality looks good…you’d recommend? I need something small, I still use a big huge video camera, and I can’t figure out how to upload onto my computer *smacks self in head*.

Off to vote for you today!

Yep, it’s a great little camera! We actually had a really full-sized high quality video camera already, but I don’t know how to use it properly. The Flip is more useful because it’s so tiny, portable, and easy to use.

That is so adorable. She’s very strong, kicking and batting that toy! I love it. My niece just turned one, and I shamelessly posted a video of her “singing” on my blog. sooo cute! i love that you think alll these women wouldnt think a baby is ADORABLE! she is soooo sweet and i could watch a baby do “nothing” for at least 30 minutes straight and not get bored lol…after 30 minutes…id probably pick them up lol..

super cute :) thanks for sharing!

  • Amy
    June 3, 2009 at 12:49 pm

So sweet! Yep, yep – you don’t have to worry about the mama and mama-to-be’s getting bored with baby pics and videos – we just gobble them up!

Another thing to add to your list of things that may be wrong when she is crying – being over stimulated! My son had that mat – and loved it to pieces – but sometimes it was too much and he would get upset and need a break from it! (particularly when he was younger) Sometimes babies just need to zone out! :)

  • Cristie
    June 3, 2009 at 2:08 pm

Don’t forget to add “Crying for a new toy” to the list of reasons they cry. The rest they grow out of…that one sticks around for the next 20 or so years. Of course, Mama has to have her toys also, like a video camera. ;) Sweeeeeet baby!

Take lots of video without shame! My little ones are now almost 3 and 15 months old and even now there are things they’ve moved on from that I’m kicking myself for not getting on video.

Plus, watching your videos helps my baby fever. The DH has said we have to wait a while for another one!

Your baby is lovely and you must be very happy so I don’t want this to come off as harsh. I just wanted to let you know that I used to really enjoy visiting your site (when it was focused on home decor, craft, and such), but will probably stop visiting now that it’s mostly baby. I like kids in general but I find the minutia of babies really dull. My 2 cents.

    she is very sweet. :)
you can cross out boredom on your list and maybe add overstimulated. at this age they can’t really be bored. everything is so new and interesting. so if she is crying more than usual cut down on toys. :( At least that was case with my babies. Good luck. You are wonderful mom.
