My Life

On Hold

I’d planned on having my usual Friday Honor Roll up for you today, but I think I’m going to have to push it to Monday. I’ve been working on a backup computer that is slowing me down (read all about my frustration here), and two weeks in I’m having a hard time keeping productivity up. Yesterday’s photo of Eleanor was an all-day process just to import images from my camera, select one, and edit it! I have new photos of the library to share too, but I can’t process them on this machine. Here’s an Instagram pic as a little preview.

Instead of wrestling all day to get some links up, I’m going to get our house ready for Eleanor’s birthday party. We’re bucking what everyone else seems to be doing, and celebrating here, at home. We’re going to have a gaggle of four years olds over tomorrow, and we’re looking forward to it.

Oh, that’s an ad! (The stool and dish towel ARE cute, but I just wanted to clarify.)

We celebrate birthdays at home too :) I sometimes feel like it would be easier to just show up somewhere else, but I would miss the personal details. And planning a party just makes me happy. And I have fond memories of at-home parties from my childhood.

For what it’s worth, I love at-home parties! I think they can be more fun because you can personalize everything. I think the only reason more people don’t do them anymore is that they’re so much work!

I can’t believe Eleanor is already 4 years old! Time certainly does fly. Parties at home are the absolute best and so much more personal. I think children remember them better too. Hope everything goes smoothly.

I am so glad to see a micro-trend of birthday parties at home again! So many of my friends with small children have been doing this.

I cannot believe Eleanor is 4. That happened fast…right? Happy birthday Miss E!!!

We have always had at home parties too, up until my kiddo’s 8th birthday, when we booked some lanes at a bowling alley instead. I think having had a rowdy bunch of 7 year olds running around our house the year before made me realize the time had come to move on. But 4 year old girls? That will be all sorts of adorable, and they are going to go ga-ga over all the lovely pink in your home.

We had an equal mix of girls and boys over, plus three moms and a dad, and the only one that commented on our house was the dad!

I love that you’re having a party at home! I started doing it to save money but now it’s become a way to make the party super creative and tailored to each kid. Check out the “glam-tastic” bday party I threw for my 8 year old daughter:

I am having issues with my computer as well. Took it in to the Apple store and it turns out I need more RAM but they don’t have it anymore so I will need to get it from a different place. I TOTALLY understand when things are taking forever. That is just the PITS.

Have a wonderful day with your sweet girl tomorrow.
