Happy Halloween from the Owl and the Hedgehog

Halloween

Eleanor, the Owl

Eleanor was an owl this year, and August was a hedgehog. I went as a mommyblogger with a large camera, apparently.

August and Nicole

This is the shot that I got from that position. (I’ll bet you didn’t know hedgehogs could be so ferocious.)

August, the Ferocious Hedgehog

We painted our pumpkins this year. August’s was interpretive, Eleanor’s had a smiley face, mine was crawling with bugs, and Brandon’s was a severed eyeball (which he worked on while watching Dexter at night). Together, they were cute, cute, creepy, and gross.

This was the first year that I didn’t make the kids’ costumes. Eleanor was a Katamari Damacy Prince the first year, Olivia the pig for her second Halloween, and last year Eleanor and August were the Gruffalo’s Child and the Big Bad Mouse. This year, they got store-bought costumes from Pottery Barn Kids. They were adorable and akin to what I would have made had I done them myself, but I couldn’t help feeling a bit guilty (especially as the neighbors asked if I made them again this year). I spend just as much when I make them myself, and of course there’s a huge time commitment, but it also makes me feel really good.

But then, Halloween isn’t about the parents, is it? My little owl and hedgehog loved to go trick-or-treating, and they loved stuffing themselves with candy all night afterward.

Halloween

Trick or Treat!

I loved it too.

Those costumes are adorable, and please, do not feel guilty! My older son wore the same costume from last year and my little guy was a tiger with painted on whiskers and no tiger ears. They were still cute and we had a great time. Your children will love the memories no matter who made the costumes. :)

My 1 year old son’s costume was from Pottery Barn Kids as well. I got it last year on clearance. They are such nice quality and perfect for cold trick or treating nights. The kids look so cute! You captured them perfectly!

Oh my gosh, those are the absolute most adorable costumes ever! I love love love to see kids dress up as something different and unique for Halloween. There can only be so many Batmen and Princesses.

First of all, love the color of your tights and skirt! :) Also, I just love when kids the age of your children come to my door on Halloween. They are soooo cute and they look at you like they just cannot believe that they can knock on your door, and you will give them candy. So fun.

So adorable. Owls, hedgehogs and snails are my daughter’s nursery theme. She went as a snail ballerina this year. :-)

I think those costumes look amazing and I totally hear you on the issue with it costing just as much to make them as to buy them and the time. My “orange princess dress” I made for my girlie took such blood sweat and tears and only looked marginally better than if I’d bought it from a store. Sigh!

And what a ferociously cute hedgehog!

Those costumes are adorable! No one needs to know they’re store bought, I thought they were homemade when I saw the pictures.

I love your coat, I have the same one!
