Making it Yours (MiY) explores ways to use stylish investment pieces for the home while keeping up with changing lives and changing tastes. In this third edition, I’m focusing on the ever popular Madeline Weinrib Zig Zag Rug. It started out in the home of a young woman who had just splurged on the rug (it was the most expensive thing in her apartment!), and it is making its way with her through several changes of residence. We first saw it in the living/dining area of her girly apartment, and then in her bedroom. When she and her sweetie moved in together, they made the apartment more masculine and then they continued and went for a modern cabin look.
Now we’ve come to the fifth and final room in this edition of MiY.
Well, good and bad news for our friend… She received a promotion, but had to move to a new city and is once again living by herself. She has decided to buy some really nice chairs and a quality credenza for the dining room in her new home, and the tee pee dining table is still with her from before. A fun chandelier hangs overhead, and the table is set with Classic Century Dinnerware by Eva Zeisel. A sweet baby deer photo and curtains made from Amy Butler fabric are unapologetically feminine since she is once again decorating only to her tastes.
Thus ends the third edition of Making it Yours! I hope you’ve enjoyed following along. Any suggestions for the next round?

I love the girly vibe! I’m especially loving the table/ chair combo.
I’d say this last iteration is my favorite — love that Amy Butler fabric paired with the zig zag.
Everything looks so girly and chic, I love it! Thanks for reminding me I need a new set of dishes. Preferably a nice set that matches! :)
Your pics are always amazing! The Amy Butler print for the curtains are a lovely touch.
Love it! Perhaps next round a Danish modern credenza/dresser/tv unit? It’s a super versatile piece that can be used in a lot of decors!
what about a comfy and colorful side chair?
or a special sofa?
I love this one!! One question – did she break up with her boyfriend? LOL I love the story lines too, so I had to wonder. :)
I was totally wondering about the backstory too! I think she must have broken up with him, bc the baby deer print is clearly a “Ha! I’ll show you” type of decorating. It’s like when I started burning incense 24/7 after breaking up with an asthmatic.
Ha! Yes, we can say they broke up. I didn’t want to write another boy meets girl, boy marries girl, they have babies and live happily ever after story. This one is girl moves on and lives a totally rad single life. ;)
oh, you could even design around your anthro chair, I love that chair (but my husband refuses to consider it, too feminine for him)!
You are so talented! I love the cart before the horse in the Modern Cabin moodboard. Ha!
I wondered if anyone would catch that!
Long time lurker, first time commenter. I’m so impressed with your mood boards. One question–how do you find your your artwork for these? I find that’s the hardest thing to do–find artwork that has the colors I want for a room, that’s affordable, original and not just another boring print of a poster or something. How do you weed through Etsy or find sources? Maybe I’m over-thinking it a bit. :)
Awww, I am still a little sad that it didn’t work out. Glad is amazing and go a promotion though….but still….not even the pretend stories work out for the couple!? Damn!
I’d love to see a series with an armoire – I have one that I’ve had since high school, and I need a little inspiration on new ways to use it!
love the armoire idea! I’ve had one around since high school too. It was a graduation gift from my parents.
This has definitely been my favourite making it yours series. You have got a great eye!
I love that you are adding artwork to the mix.
I bought one of Sharon’s reindeer prints last year and it is just perfect by my bed. That chandelier – Ooh-la-la!
Love that credenza, its totally up my alley! Good for the girl moving on and living the single rad life!
Really love your choice of the Amy Butler fabric! Gorgeous
Oh, that Amy Butler paper is TDF. Can’t you see the huge vase of bright pink peonies in the center of that table on a beautiful spring day? Makes me want to hang out with your girl ! Great mood board.
I can’t believe they broke up! I had high hopes for them after their mini-makeover together. :-(
Oh well….the zig zag rug will keep her spirits up! :-)
Hooray!! Those Eva Zeisel dishes are my wedding dishes and I am so in love with them. The curves are breathtaking.
