I spotted these Evie floral pillows on clearance at Pottery Barn when I was out the other day. I hadn’t noticed them online or browsing through the catalog before. The pattern has the quirk of a good vintage find, and scattered amongst the leaves and flowers are caterpillars, butterflies, and beetles (you know how I feel about beetles). I liked the back, which isn’t shown in the product photos, even better than the front.
I often see a new print, piece of furniture, wallpaper, pillow, whatever, and I start dreaming up a whole room around it. Do you guys do the same thing? It’s a little dangerous because I want to buy! all! the! things! so instead, I come home and whip up a design plan I can share here. Good thing I have a blog, eh?

I would love to see this as a guest room. I wanted to play up the pinks and blues in the pillow, and the vintage-style bed is a nod to the pattern style. The use of black throughout would keep the whole thing from veering off into too-sweet territory, and more modern pieces keep the look current. The imperfect dots on the desk are a good complement to the floral print, and the brass hardware and lighting add warmth.
p.s. I almost used “bed bugs” in the title but then thought better of it. You’re welcome.

What a great inspiration! And thank you for using color…..as much as I love the sleek lines of light and airy white rooms….I feel like it’s all I’m seeing lately.
Love the pops of color and that pokadot desk.
I love your dreaming!! It IS the perfect guest room. Perfect balance of color and as you mentioned, usuing pink without making it too precious. Well done!! :)
Oh dear. That blue caterpillar looks like an, ehrm, adult toy. I can’t unsee it!
Oh dear. Ha!
I have been looking for a particular green and the F&B looks right. I ordered the pink sheets at my local store and will head out to pick them up shortly. I love love the polka dots on the desk and even the sheets shown in the other blog I can never find polka dots in king size. I guess designers-believing that only adults have king beds and adults have grown beyond an affinity for polka dots there would be little to no market for them. I will keep looking. Thanks for the great post, all of your choices-as usual- are so “lovely”.
That desk is to die for!!!
Three cheers for the Ikea hackers, they are doing god’s work…
PERFECTION.
I just bought those pillow shams! I am planning to use the other side of the print with the mini floral. Can’t wait for them to be delivered!
What does the back look like? I love these and we are planning to update our bedding this spring!
It’s similar to the front, but the placement of leaves is a little different, I think there were more pink and blue flowers and foliage, and of course, the beetle I liked so much.
The Evie line is by illustrator Llew Mejia! I mixed the Evie and Lyla bedding. Lyla also has moths and beetles (and is on sale).
Llew Mejia has some awesome moody & buggy wallpaper coming out soon – I’m patiently waiting for the release to use in a bathroom remodel!
What a great inspiration! Love the pops of color and that pokadot desk. All of your choices are so lovely.
Thanks for the great post
[…] Console Table from West Elm is worth a look too. I included the matching nightstand in a post last week, but while that came in teal, the console table is only in white, mint, or […]
I would love for you to consider a complimentary bug pillow from a new pillow collection I am doing with Portland entomologists, The Bug Chicks! I know you are a fan of insects and I can totally see one in this room. Check out the collection: https://www.etsy.com/shop/STUDIOTULLIA?section_id=18803833&ref=shopsection_leftnav_11
The fun thing is you can color in the bug designs with fabric markers to add more color.
I love following your blog and really enjoy your home and its progress. I also have a 100 yr old house that is always needing lots of TLC.
By the way, where did you get the embroidered dragonfly pillow in your boy’s room? I love that one.
Best, Suzanne

Those are so good! The dragonfly, and an embroidered beetle, were from Target a couple of years ago.
Thank you. I bet Target doesn’t carry them anymore, but I will look into it. If you want a pillow cover from the bug chicks collection, just let me know which one and how to get it to you…
Best,
Suzanne
