- Back in 2014, I had my eye on Anthropologie’s Etched Arcadia Wall Mural for this house, noting that I had been wanting it for years. I’m not a big accent wall person (I think it works better in photos and for the ‘gram) so I couldn’t think of a place to use a mural. Then, bing! I realized I have an inset wall by the back door that would be perfect. I’m finally going for it.
- Speaking of Instagram… it’s changing the way we approach decorating our homes.
- And have you ever had people take photos of your house? (It happens here.) Have you ever taken a photo of or in front of a pretty house? (Guilty.) This gave me something to think about.
- So much disdain for Instagram today. (Hey, but um, follow me on Instagram!) Anyway, maybe try making your own presets?
- I related to much of Daniel’s admissions of what happened with his house reno/flip. Cheer him on as he moves forward.
- A change in copyright law meant a 20-year-gap in new works entering the public domain. Welcome, works from 1923!
- “Make this a print!” (I just bought one.)
I’m off to continue working on the stairs and back door, and we have a birthday kid to celebrate today once he gets back home from school. Have a great weekend! I can’t wait to get this wallpaper mural up and report back to you on it.

I can’t wait to see the wallpaper! The Curbed article. Just gross. Even if the homeowner wasn’t trying to recover from treatment, she owes the instagrammer nothing. Not the use of her home for monetary gains. Not the courtesy of asking for quiet in a way that wouldn’t be taken as crabby. If I ever live in a place that gets pinned I’d install sprinkler heads and activate them every time someone set foot on my porch/grass/sidewalk/whatever. I do love cheapoldhouses and circa houses. As realty feeds, I can indulge without invading.
I hung this mural in my old house and it acted as a headboard and I love love loved it. The walls were a darker mid-toned grey and it perfectly demarkated the bed area. You will love it.
I longed for years to put this wallpaper in my small powder room. Then I read several comments about folks actually getting dizzy when surrounded by the pattern. Huh? Eager to learn what you think. Best wishes.
The links to articles about social media (specifically IG) and how we present ourselves really hit home for me, especially today. Our realtor asked if we wanted to participate in an opportunity to share our (not-so-insta-worthy) home on their blog, to tell others about our experience in the process of buying a house. My husband’s response was an immediate no, but my thought: let’s show people what “real” people live like! Our bathroom is absolutely heinous (wood panel. Plastic tub. Glass brick window. Crumbling plaster). Our kitchen has two square feet of counter space. But we worked really hard to paint and refresh what we could on a very limited budget, and I’m proud. There’s a small part of me that wants to share this, and tell people, “Hey, it may not be glamorous, but it’s real, and we love our home and neighborhood.”
Thanks for sharing, Nicole. And hi to E and G from their former school librarian :)
