I was looking through the new west elm catalog yesterday, and I really liked these nailhead linen curtains.
Brandon asked where we would even put them, and I said maybe the living room. They’re the same color as our couch, and I’m getting a little tired of the yellow curtains we have now. Well, Brandon started talking about how “we need the yellow because it brings color to the room and ties everything together, and we already have the dressmaker’s dummy that matches the couch…”
Sometimes I’m not sure how interested he is in the way our home is decorated, but he IS paying attention. :)

Those are really interesting… hmmmm… I guess I didn’t pay much attention to the catalog because I don’t remmeber those… maybe I should’ve put on my reading glasses!

LOL!!
My fiancee is the same way. He won’t be interested or seem to care until at some random time, when he’ll express an opinion like your husband did.
I was wanting to re-paint our bedroom to make it more neutral – I was thinking whites/ivories/creams/khakis…. but when I tell him, he says,”But the blue has kind of grown on me. And it ties in with my grandmother’s painting.” This, coming from the man who when we moved in wanted to know what was wrong with plain white walls…. ;-)

It’s funny how sometimes you think your husband is just not at all interested in home furnishings/design/color, etc. Then they pipe up with an opinion! I want to paint our dining room/living room to jazz it up (it’s beige – ugh!) but our accents (curtains, lampshades) are all burgundy. The other day my husband, out of the blue, says, “You know, burgundy is really rather dated.” I almost fell off my chair – LOL!

Nicole,
It’s been a pleasure reading your blog. I just found it and it’s making me antsy to decorate my own apartment. My husband and I are moving to Chicago at the end of the year and I cannot wait. This blog is a real inspiration to get my act together and start thinking about finding a real style for our place.

well..:-D you are lucky to have a man that at least ask you where to put a thing at home…;-) you know the majority of italian men are not interested at all to this thing..so I have to decide everything by my own..:-)Those curtains are gorgeous! I like the colour..great

I have to agree with your husand. I think the yellow does tie a lot of the colors together. But I do know the feeling of wanting to redecorate or change something and buy someone new or different. Can you compromize and put studs on the yellow curtains? :)

Wow- he is paying attention, and knows what a dressmaker dummy is?! Love the curtains- West Elm is getting a lot of play these days- it was highlighted over on Real Simple by Holly.

Bravo! I’m so impressed by your husbands awareness!
I love the yellow curtains :)

That is SO cute!!! I’m on my own when decorating our new house. We haven’t closed on it yet but I’ll be looking for advice! ; ) Love your ideas!

He’s not just paying attention, he’s learning! You have trained him well.

I love the curtains! What if you put a dress or something on the dummy…just for some color? Unless you have one that’s an antique, like I do and you don’t want to cover it up.
It’s usually nice when they notice things, mine seems to only mentions something if he doesn’t like it!

Love the curtains! I have found that if my husband actually expresses an opinion about our home – he is usually onto something. That’s why our house is now red, and he was right!

strange how they randomly let you know they’re paying attention. when i try to do something different that he doesn’t agree with, he tells me why something won’t match or go together…
so they DO pay attention…hmmm…
Erin
I love that he calls it “the dressmaker dummy” (I’ve always heard dressform). My husband calls mine “the sewing body.”

Thank you for drawing my attention to these! I love the weightiness of them. They appear substantial while still letting some light through.

Sometimes I love it when my hubby gets in there and becomes involved with the decorating stuff…othertimes I just want him to leave me to do my thing (:
I’ve just learned that new curtians can make all the difference! I changed my curtians last week and it changed the whole look of my living room! Well, I bought cushions too…but it was mostly the curtians that changed the look.

Can I just say that I went to West Elm to check out some furniture (a vanity, to be exact) and I was so, so, so disappointed. It looked like Furio! It was beyond cheap and flimsy. When did all this happen? I used to love them. The accessories were still awesome, though.

aww that’s so cute of him to be paying attention. but those are so lovely curtains.. just buy them and “surprise” him! :D

Oh, and he also said “the thing that makes our couch interesting is the shape, not the color”. Which is true! So cute.

Aww, so sweet of him to have concern! Perhaps he’s just trying to prevent you from purchasing these fabulous linen curtains.
