Decision Made.

Eleanor will be sleeping in a Jenny Lind bed.

I know the peacock headboard is cool/unique/cute/awesome, but almost everyone that had one when growing up admitted to breaking off the circles. And the Minnen extendable bed is a great size (twin-sized width but adjustable in length), but the thin mattress and difficult bed-making would have bothered me. The only downside to the Jenny Lind bed was the higher price.

OK, I could have tried to be patient and waited for one (in good condition) to pop up on Craigslist or eBay. I could have even hoped that the poor review was wrong and went for the more affordable one at Sears/Kmart, but then I’d have to pay $90 for shipping. And either way I’d have to find bed rails and slats or a box spring. And prime and paint the frame. And really, with a basement renovation in progress (and plenty of work ahead there), and me being seven and a half months pregnant, the ready-to-go bed from Land of Nod was looking pretty good. And hello, it just happened to be on sale at a store that never puts their furniture on sale, for one day only on the very day I wrote about it? Yeah, I went ahead and took that as a sign. I ordered the bed that day, and Brandon picked it up at the Naperville warehouse Saturday morning.

Of course, we can’t set it up until we get the studio moved down to the basement. But soon. And by soon, I mean hopefully before the new baby arrives.

I think you totally made the right choice, I liked the other beds but the Jenny Lind bed is such a classic and can be used for many years to come without you getting tired of it, plus the one from Land of Nod is so nicely made that Eleanor can even pass it down to her daughter many many years from now!! Of course it seems like its too soon for Eleanor to be moving into a big girl bed though, I mean it seems like just yesterday I was reading that you had her!!

I love Jenny lind. Good choice! Wish I had gotten the Jenny lind crib for my little girl. I actually wanted the matching crib and toddler rocker like I had when I was little. Alas, she is six now, life goes on. No time for wishing.

Great pick! I would have chosen the same bed too. I thought the peacock bed would be difficult to clean, and the extendable bed… uhmm, I’m not a fan of extendables. Love, love, love the bed! Can’t wait to see the final result!

I definitely enjoy this bed (the Jenny Lind) far better than the other choices. My only concern would be making sure that the slats aren’t wide enough for an enterprising little girl to get her head stuck in. From what the picture looks like, it doesn’t seem as though that will be a problem.

You must get her one (a peacock frame) when she gets older

I think you made a good choice. It will look great, and it’s not too style specific, I think you could do lots of things with it. Can’t wait to see the finished room!

I loved the peacock originally, but this is definitely the better choice for the long term. It’s a classic.

Love it. So classic, yet so update-able. I can’t wait to see how her room and the nursery turn out.

Great choice! I love the Jenny Lind bed! And you could always use the peacock headboard for another project. I like the idea of putting it behind a low dresser, so the detailing peeks above the top of the dresser.

Excellent choice :) Eleanor is one lucky little lady.

I swoon for that bed. I dream about that bedroom with the two JL beds in your last post. Literally. I dream about it. My Emmaline’s (a very small) 18.5 months right now and in no danger of coming out of her JL crib any time soon, but that bed is also in her future. I just can’t imagine a more perfect, versatile style of bed. It just will NEVER go out of style.

    Good choice! I second it.
    Yay!

I love that with the first baby, the nursery is PERFECTLY set up with time to spare but with the second, it’s a “hopefully”. Hahaha! My second slept in his infant seat b/c he had reflux and wouldn’t sleep any other way, so it’ll work out even if “hopefully” becomes a “didn’t happen”.

Love the Jenny Lind bed. It really is lovely.

I had Jenny Lind cribs for my twins. So timeless and very pretty. My daughters are still sharing a room, one loves pink, one loves purple. Most of the pink/purple bedding I’ve come across is way too bubblegum for me. I’m wondering where I can find the purple/pink bedding in the picture of this post, it’s the nicest I’ve come across so far. :)

Congratulations! She will have it for years. Totally worth the money. The sale was definitely a sign! Good for you I say!

Great choice! Glad you went with your gut. She’ll have that for years. As for getting things ready for the new baby… well, I had to pressure my hubby to get the crib set up just days before our second baby was born.

Gorgeous and totally classic, nice choice!

And I think you were totally right to avoid the cool headboard for exactly the reasons you mentioned in that previous post – maybe for a grown up bed it would work, but I could def. see a child’s pillows always getting squashed between the wall & headboard!

And here’s to convenience!! As mama to a 5 month old boy, I know you can’t go the diy route every stinking time! lol xo Laura

We have this bed & love it. It’s worth the price. I just happened to look at the Land of Nod site the other day as well to look at dressers. I also took it as a sign and bought the matching dresser I’d been thinking about. I knew I’d be kicking myself later for not buying it when it was on sale. I told my husband it was shopping karma & he bought it!

I had a Jenny Lind bed growing up, and when I moved out on my own, my parents gave it to me. I still love it. Classics like this never go out of style.

I am searching for a cheaper version for my two youngest sons. The Kmart one is getting terrible reviews… Or course, what would one expect for less than $200?

  41. Michaela Avatar

So sweet! I adore the bed. I would have loved to sleep in a pretty little bed like this one when I was younger (: Great choice!

  42. Alana Avatar

Kmart carries a Jenny Lind bed and does free shipping to store.

I ordered one a couple of years ago for Sophia’s room and was completely satisfied with the quality when compared to the Land of Nod version.

Oh— And I don’t know if you’re the sort of person who geeks out about stuff like this, but I was interested in finding out exactly who this Jenny Lind person was!
