Blue and Green Kitchen

I found this image on my hard drive that I had saved in 2009. Oh, the era before Pinterest! Oh, the folders upon folders of “Some Things I Like!” Oh, the inability to track down where I had gotten the image from.

I don’t like to share unsourced images, so I set to tracking this one down. I finally found it (Remodelista credits the kitchen to a Parisian architect, Phillippe Harden), and was rewarded with additional photos of the space.

I’ve got to get cracking on those curtains in the kitchen so I could play around with the palette in Photoshop. I don’t know that I want to go this colorful, but… maybe I kind of do now? I have to give it some thought.

Peachy Pinky Coral

It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of pink, but lately it’s peach and coral that have my heart.

This was a fun one to photograph. Usually I’d put this type of post together in Photoshop, but I rather like seeing everything actually grouped together!

IKEA Share Space

Have you seen IKEA’s new Share Space site? I always think it’s fun to see how real people take things and use them in their own homes, and this new site is dedicated to that idea.

IKEA is a sponsor of Making it Lovely, but I’ve always had a lot of love for them. Brandon and I redid our kitchen with IKEA cabinets shortly after we moved into our house, so I’ve added a few of my photos on Share Space. The more people add, the more fun the site will be to browse and search.

IKEA has also launched their first US blog, Design by IKEA, to go along with the site. Good news for those of us that were previously getting our IKEA fix from their Swedish blog!

On Persistence

I want to be a better photographer.

I’ve mentioned this a few times before. Learning to use my camera in manual mode was on my 30 Before Thirty list, and it’s something that I’ve continued to work on. I can take a decent photo, and I’m probably better than the average amateur, but am I where I want to be with my photography? Definitely not.

I love Ira Glass’ take on persistence and creative work. It’s something that I’ve kept in mind as I work on improving my skills.

“…most everybody I know who does interesting, creative work, they went through a phase of years where they had really good taste and they could tell what they were making wasn’t as good as they wanted it to be.”

“…it’s only by going through a volume of work that you’re actually going to catch up and close that gap.”

So that’s what I’m doing. I’m currently working on my 4-6 Weeks Project (a daily photograph), and I’ll continue to challenge myself after that. Persistence is good.

Can you identify? What are you working on becoming better at?
