  • The Guest Room Won’t Be Finished.

The Guest Room Won’t Be Finished.

Yep. I’ve been sick, and I wasn’t able to do much with the guest room. Brandon and I did get all of the junk out that had accumulated in there, so at least it will be clean. The daybed will be delivered tomorrow, which is when Lili will be arriving. She will have a place to sleep, hurrah!

Even though the room won’t be finished in time for our first guest, I’m still thinking about how to decorate it. I haven’t picked a paint color yet, but I think I’d like to go with either a light creamy beige or a silvery gray color. I need to find curtains before I decide.

I like the scroll flocked curtains from west elm. Nice, right?

I’m also pretty keen on the Lumimarja Natural fabric from Marimekko. Swoon.

At first I thought the Marimekko fabric was too spendy, but I just realized that it would be about the same price as the west elm curtains. Hmmm.

Oh, and I also bought a little side table from Target.

Back to fabric… I’m thinking more and more about plunking down the money for the Marimekko design. Any other suggestions before I purchase? I’d like there to be a bit of orange in the pattern.

  • A Daybed for the Guest Room

A Daybed for the Guest Room

I just ordered the Lubi Daybed from CB2 for our little guest room.

I think the Pier 1 lamp that I bought for the office might find a home in the guest room too.

    New Lamp?

Do you know why? Because we have a guest coming! Lili will be staying here for a few days next week! We’ll be going to the Design*Sponge Biz Ladies Meet Up, the DIY Trunk Show, and maybe a couple of other events too.

I haven’t even started on the guest room yet though! Here’s what it looks like when it’s empty:

It’s an awkward little room (7′ x 14′, with a sloping ceiling). Any ideas? I haven’t devoted much thought to it yet, but maybe we can whip it into shape quickly! You know, in all of my spare time. ;)

  • Using the Mac Keyboard Viewer

    Using the Mac Keyboard Viewer

There’s a nice tutorial over at Suffix.Abuse about using glyphs. Many fonts have alternate versions of letters that you can use for a more decorative look, and you can access them in Illustrator and InDesign through the glyphs menu.

For those of you on a Mac, the Keyboard Viewer is another helpful way to get the most out of your fonts.

Bring up your System Preferences (found in the Applications folder), and click on “International”.

Next, check the box for the Keyboard Viewer (under the Input Menu tab). You may want the Character Palette as well. Scroll down a bit and choose your language/country too.

You can close your System Preferences now. You should see a new icon in the top right of your screen, in the Finder’s Input Menu (don’t worry… I didn’t know it had a name either). Click and hold on the icon and select “Show Keyboard Viewer”.

A little keyboard will show up on your screen, and it responds to any key you press. Then you can choose a specific font off the Font Menu.

Now you can look for that fancy ‘d’, the ‘y’ with the big flourish, or just find the copyright symbol (hint: it’s option + g).

  • Font Crush!

    Font Crush!

Do you love fonts like I love fonts? I spent several thousand dollars on them last year, and I’m not even sure what the total has been so far for 2007. Don’t worry, they’re tax deductible for me (like that actually justifies anything). Plus, I need them! Fonts for logos, fonts for websites, fonts for stationery, fonts for new card designs, fonts because they’re pretty… OK, maybe that last reason isn’t valid.

Anyway. Point is, me likey some fonts. And now you can benefit.

    Font Crush!

I’ve started with five free fonts: cantabile, fizzpop, ghostwood, pharmacy (as seen in the banner above), and woody. They’re rotating randomly with each page load. Look for them on the far right sidebar, above my wishlist.

I’ll add new fonts periodically too. Would you like me to stick to the freebies (usually available for personal use only), or should I include fonts to be purchased as well?

  • Kaffe Fassett Fabric

My Kaffe Fassett fabric from Sew, Mama, Sew is here!

That was fast. I just ordered it Saturday morning!

p.s. Brandon picked up some flowers for me when he was grocery shopping. Isn’t that sweet?

    Office Lamp Mock-ups

I tried out a few lamps with Photoshop to see which one I liked best, but I’m still not sure.

Here’s the office with the new lamp:
