  • "Chili" Lamp?

    "Chili" Lamp?

I bought a new lamp from Pier 1 yesterday. I’m not sure if it’s actually called “Chili” (I think that’s just the color), but it wasn’t on the website and I don’t remember what the name was on the tag.

I’m not 100% sure about it yet. Keep it? Return it?

    New Lamp

It would be for my office. I love the lamp that I have in there now, but the power switch is somewhat broken and now it hurts my wrist to turn it off.

I’ve been thinking about getting the Lights Up! Nikki Table Lamp:

    Nikki Table Lamp

That one is $185 though, and the lamp that I bought was only $75. Still, I’d rather spend the extra money and get the lamp I really want instead of skimping and getting one that’s only so-so. The problem is that I’m not sure which one I want…

  • Girl With Skinned Knee

    Girl With Skinned Knee

I just bought this print (via More Ways to Waste Time) from atwhim:

    Girl With Skinned Knee

When my grandmother came over to see the house for the first time, she noticed a little something… I have a lot of prints of ladies. Not only that, but they’re ladies that are dressed like me, or have the same hair color, or stand in a similar fashion, and so on. “Is this you?”, my grandmother would ask over and over again.

I don’t think that I’m narcissistic, but I am drawn to art that I can ‘see’ myself in. I also like organic shapes, graphic patterns, and bold, modern florals.

What about you (all of you)? If you look at the prints and drawings and paintings you have around your home, do you notice a recurring theme?

  • I Bought Wallpaper

    I Bought Wallpaper

Yes, I finally found (and bought) wallpaper for the dining room. I’m thrilled, but I have a feeling that some people will not like my choice nearly as much as I do!

First, let me share my absolute favorite wallpaper. It’s in a photo from Veer, so there’s no actual information available on it.

    Now, the wallpaper I bought:

I love it! Love it love it love it. It’s a little Wary-Meyers-esque, no? It’s vintage 60s wallpaper from U-Turn Vintage Wallpapers on eBay.

The lighting is not as good as it is in the Veer photo (which is a $450 photo), but I think this is about as close to my mystery wallpaper as I’m going to get. Unless, miraculously, one of you has a source?

  • White Molded Chairs

    White Molded Chairs

Now that I’ve taken photos of Brandon’s office, I’m really hating the cheap (somewhat broken) office chair that’s in there. I’m looking for a new one that’s either white molded plastic or fiberglass. Unfortunately, most of the chairs that I like are a bit out of our budget! That said, here are nine options that I’ve been looking at, ranging from $14.99 to $1232 (a girl can wish)…

    White Molded Chairs

    1. Nelson Swag Leg Armchair, DWR $379
    2. Saarinen Tulip Armchair – Vinyl, DWR $1232
    3. JAKOB, IKEA $139
    4. molded desk chair, west elm $149
    5. Eames Molded Plastic Armchair, DWR $329
    6. SNILLE, IKEA $14.99
    7. orbit chair, CB2 $119
    8. Saarinen Tulip Armless Chair – Vinyl, DWR $1152
    9. Eames Molded Plastic Side Chair, DWR $229

  • Painting the Stairway

    Painting the Stairway

Brandon started priming the knotty pine in the stairway last night.

    Painting the Stairway

My dad was horrified when we said we planned to paint it. “That’s nice wood!” Sorry dad.

We actually found out from our neighbor that the previous owners had only recently put it up when they decided to sell! The addition was done sometime in the 50s (we think), so what was there before? Bare studs?

I’m not sure what color to go with now though.

You can see the stairway when you’re sitting in the living room and it opens up to the library, so obviously I want a color that will look good with both of the other rooms. You can also see into Brandon’s office when you’re in the living room (it’s on the same elevation), so there’s another color to consider. Oh, and the carpet is beige.

    Surrounding Stairway Colors

The living room has mustard/gold curtains and an orange chair, so I’m looking at those as possible choices. I also like pink (!), but I think the house has a lot of pink already and Brandon’s probably ready for a different color by now.

I’m going to change the curtains in the library, but I don’t know what I want yet. I have a bunch of Laceworks from Amy Butler that I bought for the room:

    Amy Butler Lacework Fabric

I’m not so sure about it now, but the fabric would work with the green ceiling in the library (“Flowering Herbs” by Benjamin Moore). I could repaint that if I need to, but I don’t want to. I’ve had enough of painting ceilings! If I go with that fabric, I could use the pink that’s in there… ;)

  • Shopping Soundtrack, Anyone?

Squeee! I’ve just stumbled upon the most wonderful collections of 50s/60s shopping mall music!

Any of those songs would make a fitting soundtrack to this little video (found via Jenn Ski’s blog):
