Here’s something fun. I’m letting a typeface inspire me to pull a few goodies together!

Starting on the Basement Studio (Finally!)
Furniture provided in part by IKEA.I used to have a great little studio. Remember?
Oh, former studio! You were so good to me and my shop. Then I had a baby. And then another one. And I needed that upstairs bedroom back. So we remodeled and finished the basement to make room, and now (finally!) it’s time to get the new studio up and running. I last showed you the space when it was newly finished and looking rather empty.
Here’s what it looks like these days, with the furniture moved in.
I’m excited to be working with IKEA for this stage of the basement remodel. I already had one of their butcher-block kitchen islands and I’m adding a few more pieces from their Värde line because they work perfectly in craft rooms. And yay, I finally have a space to bring back the striped Stockholm Rand rug! I tried it a couple of years ago in the dining room, but it just wasn’t right for that space.
It’s going to look much better in the studio. I’m bringing another over to the playroom side too for continuity.
I have a lot of organizing and decorating to do. The play room can wait a little, but I’m eager to open Pink Loves Brown up again, and obviously I need everything in place before that can happen.

Style: April ’11
Oh, you guys. You didn’t think that that other outfit was my April Style post, did you? That was my little April Fool’s Day joke. Ha ha, jokes on me. I looked like that all throughout high school.
I am loving that striped dress. Part of me thinks I can wear it because it looks nursing friendly, and then I remember that I still look five months pregnant and maybe horizontal stripes aren’t my friend. (Jokes on me again?) I’m thinking about getting it anyway.
I like the sweet simplicity of a silver locket paired with something unexpected like this rubber dipped copper arrow ring. Springtime calls for a straw hat, and a cute floral (or in this case branched) bag. And I think I may have mentioned the shoes before, but I still want a pair of old-lady Worishofer sandals too.

Choosing New Bedding
I am working with American Express to redo my bedroom. This week they have provided me with 50,000 Membership Rewards points.
I always start with the bedding when I want a new look in the bedroom. The only thing that has a bigger impact than new bedding for less money is paint, but then you actually have to paint. And I like painting (I really do), but I also like the wall color we already have.
Well OK, I may still paint… I’m not sure yet. But anyway, bedding! I liked each of these:
They were all good options, but none of them were perfect. Then I found the Abigail Paisley set.
I bought a paisley sheet set nearly a decade ago and I’ve loved it for years, but it has become completely threadbare and faded. I’m so happy to have found a replacement! I redeemed my Membership Rewards points for two $250 gift certificates to Crate & Barrel and ordered the duvet cover with two pillow shams. I also ordered a green quilt and shams at the risk of being too matchy-matchy, but I think it will look good. I already have a set of white sheets, so I’m set in that department. Wouldn’t a set of striped sheets be cute though? Maybe I’ll try to track them down next week (the website says they’re on back order).
What do you think? Will the gray sheets look funny with my brown bed?
p.s. Isn’t this looking a lot like the Striking Stripes and Polka Dots edition of MiY I did not long ago? I loved that one; I’m pretty jazzed about doing something similar!

On the Fence
I’ve been thinking about trying to create a little privacy along our back fence for quite some time. I saw the DYNING wind/sun shield at IKEA this weekend, and at just $7.99 I figured it was worth a try. I’m not sure if I like it or not now that it’s up though.
The weather has warmed up but the trees and bushes have not leafed out yet, so everything looks a bit dead and brown. I almost didn’t post this photo because the yard looks so bad right now, but the neighbor’s weeping cherry trees are in bloom and at least those look nice. We’re going to add some Hicks Yews to that area soon, and that will probably give us the privacy we’re looking for. Until the evergreens grow in though, the stripes could look cool as a background. Plus, they’re fun to see from the alley.
Here’s an old picture, just for reference so you can see what the area looks like when the leaves are on the trees.
I think I need to see what that portion of the yard looks like in a few weeks to make my decision.
