Jack O’Lanterns
Brandon and I carved pumpkins tonight. Oh! I love the way they turned out!
My sister and I carved pumpkins with my mom when we were little of course, but I don’t remember ever adding a candle inside. Egads, it makes all the difference!
I started with a sketch (as I do like to preplan). I wanted a face – no black cats or witches on broomsticks for me.
The pumpkin was a little hard to carve with our steak knives, so we used our fancy Wüstof kitchen knives. We had a hard time making detailed cuts, and I was wondering how I was going to cut out the stitches I had planned. Brandon suggested an exacto knife, but as I was looking for it I remembered that I had a linoleum cutter. A ha! It was the perfect tool.
The stitches at the top of my pumpkin are a little hard to see, but I’m pretty happy with the way it turned out overall!
Whereas my pumpkin is a little scary, I think Brandon’s is just scared.
Boo!
