I gave Brandon a Flip video camera for our anniversary, but of course I’m using it too. We are going to have so many videos of Eleanor that are only of interest to me, Brandon, and perhaps our mothers. I promise not to bore you with all of them, though I can’t say I’ll have the same restraint over on flickr.
Here’s one such example. I find it utterly charming, even though Eleanor basically just lays there and occasionally bats at a toy for well over a minute.
The fact that she’s interested in toys now is both good and bad. Good, because she’s becoming more expressive and more like an actual little person! Bad, because now in addition to wondering if she’s crying because she’s hungry, wet, or tired, we can add crying out of boredom to the list.

I agree that it’s riveting….must be because I have a nearly identical video on my cell phone of my son. He’s now 8 months old, but I still watch it repeatedly when I’m at work. Too cute – congratulations!

We have a Flip camera too–it’s a great thing. It’s wonderful to take little videos of the baby and post them online for family and friends to see.. The only thing I’m sorry about is they have since come out with an HD version since we got ours.

The little baby noises…so cute! It’s nice to put a voice with your face also.

She is so cute!! I remember when my little girl became interested in toys too! :) How fun. :)

Congratulations on your beautiful little girl ! She seems very “lively”, and she’s really cute. I’m trying to get pregnant actually, and I hope my baby will be as cute as yours ! I love your house, it’s so inspiring. Your blog is MY DISCOVERY OF THE DAY ! I think I will check on it quite often to get some ideas for my home ! Cheers from Nantes, France.

(snort) I just glanced at the still shot really quick and all I could think was… WHERE DID SHE GET A PETER MAX PLAY MAT? Then I realized I was looking at it upside down… duhr.
She’s a doll… :)

Silly Megana
Coming out of lurkerdom to say “I spy a little dancer!” She’s already pointing those toes! Eleanor is just beautiful, and I love your blog (been reading for almost a year!).
Becky @ Farmgirl Paints
Oh so sweet. I miss those simple days. I know you’ve heard this before, but it really goes fast!
Helen
Eleanor is perfect in every way but we need to help her with her voting record.
She needs to get in the voting booth ASAP with her millions of baby friends to
make Mommy & Daddy the winners. ONLY 9 DAYS LEFT, EVERYBODY VOTE,
EVERY DAY!

she is very sweet. :)
you can cross out boredom on your list and maybe add overstimulated. at this age they can’t really be bored. everything is so new and interesting. so if she is crying more than usual cut down on toys. :( At least that was case with my babies. Good luck. You are wonderful mom.

Ohhh Nicole, what a sweet pea! Looks like she’s a little dancer too ;)

awe so sweet and precious!!!

Your baby is lovely and you must be very happy so I don’t want this to come off as harsh. I just wanted to let you know that I used to really enjoy visiting your site (when it was focused on home decor, craft, and such), but will probably stop visiting now that it’s mostly baby. I like kids in general but I find the minutia of babies really dull. My 2 cents.
Kathryn
Take lots of video without shame! My little ones are now almost 3 and 15 months old and even now there are things they’ve moved on from that I’m kicking myself for not getting on video.
Plus, watching your videos helps my baby fever. The DH has said we have to wait a while for another one!
Cristie
Don’t forget to add “Crying for a new toy” to the list of reasons they cry. The rest they grow out of…that one sticks around for the next 20 or so years. Of course, Mama has to have her toys also, like a video camera. ;) Sweeeeeet baby!
Erin
I love this video – Eleanor has grown so quickly! I think it is great that she is getting more involved, soon she’ll be crawling around.
Amy
So sweet! Yep, yep – you don’t have to worry about the mama and mama-to-be’s getting bored with baby pics and videos – we just gobble them up!
Another thing to add to your list of things that may be wrong when she is crying – being over stimulated! My son had that mat – and loved it to pieces – but sometimes it was too much and he would get upset and need a break from it! (particularly when he was younger) Sometimes babies just need to zone out! :)
luuvely
sooo cute! i love that you think alll these women wouldnt think a baby is ADORABLE! she is soooo sweet and i could watch a baby do “nothing” for at least 30 minutes straight and not get bored lol…after 30 minutes…id probably pick them up lol..
super cute :) thanks for sharing!
Nuit
OMG Nicole, I will never get bored watching this… Eleanor is adorable! The mats are very helpful and educational, they really can do wonders for your precious baby. Keep’em coming!
Kiley
That is so adorable. She’s very strong, kicking and batting that toy! I love it. My niece just turned one, and I shamelessly posted a video of her “singing” on my blog. Check it out (this is what you have to look forward to–it’s so much fun, and she’s not even mine!). http://machopurse.blogspot.com/2009/05/momentary-lapse.html

LOVE the video. Any mom in her right mind will enjoy these. Takes me back to wonderful days! I love the little noises she is making! And those cute little legs! :)
thanks for sharing!
Making it Lovely
Yep, it’s a great little camera! We actually had a really full-sized high quality video camera already, but I don’t know how to use it properly. The Flip is more useful because it’s so tiny, portable, and easy to use.
Laurie
She is so beautiful! Okay, that camera, so inexpensive but the video quality looks good…you’d recommend? I need something small, I still use a big huge video camera, and I can’t figure out how to upload onto my computer *smacks self in head*.
Off to vote for you today!
Making it Lovely
Is it familiar J? (That play mat is a hand-me-down from Brandon’s sister Jessica.)
Bundled
She is so adorable! Enjoy these times .. before you know if she’ll be crawling all over the place and you won’t be able to keep her still long enough to get any video :)
Laura
She’s so wiggly! :) Keep shooting video, you never know when she’s going to do something truly amazing!
Denise
It’s amazing how quickly babies learn and become fascinated with their little toys! Just Voted (again) for your porch!
Leanne
i see musical talent!….she is a doll, enjoy!
Belle
Our daughter loved that play mat for ages and that was her favorite hanging toy (the “ringing” duck) as well. We found it less annoying that a lot of the jangly baby toys so we were happy she liked that one the best. Congratulations and I keep voting for you (or rather, E!)
Aunt J
That play mat looks so strangely familiar….glad she’s likes it!
angeljoy
I voted for you!! What is with the wood grill thingy having over 3000 votes?! Seriously! Yours totally rocks. If you don’t win, it’ll be a cryin’ shame.
Uvi
Your baby is adorable.
I have been following your blog for several months now, and I love it. I thought it would be nice for you to know that you have a Brazilian fan.

She is so, so tiny…looks like you are enjoying the pure simplicity of each moment. I’m enjoying watching this little one grow each week. Is she my second cousin??? Finn is now 9 months and a loud, boisterous boy, full of laughs. Looking forward to meeting her soon.
Katie
Your Mother
yep. you are right – of great interest to me :) She is simply brilliant!
Mandy
Such a cliche, but you’re so right to be riveted, in a few months you won’t be believe how different she is. I’m waxing nostalgic at your expense…
reb
Ah playmats. Where did you get yours?
tammy
She’s beautiful. Thanks for the baby fix. :)
Stephanie
What a precious baby!
I’m expecting in July and I can’t wait to meet the little guy.
Kelly
Just voted for you again – love your site -love your porch!!
Whitney
She is too cute! It’s great that she is already batting at objects at such a young age. I have a 7-month-old and trust me that play mat is going to be an asset for quite some time!
Amy Schulz
She is so cute! How lucky you are :)
Samantha
Aww! She’s sooo adorable!!
Jill Browning
Adorable!! I can’t wait to meet my own little girl in October.
Where did you find that cute little play mat?
Julie Anne
Ohhhh…it’s not just you.
Babies (especially our own, but pretty much all babies) are mesmerizing for us girls. We’re hard-wired to love them.
I’v got hours (no, literally, HOURS) of tape of my niece learning to roll over onto her tummy from four years ago. It was so exciting when she discovered she could do it herself!
Thanks for posting this. It’s fun to watch El, plus we get to hear what you sound like – a voice to put with the face!
