That’s a nice-looking seat. Adjustable too.

Mademoiselle Chair by Tapiovaara Design
Wow. Just wow. Isn’t it beautiful?
The Mademoiselle Chair is a Finnish design by Tapiovaara from the 1950s. (Thank you, bloesem, for the designer’s name!)
Look how lovely. It comes in pink! Well, “coral red”, technically.
This just solidified my love for modern windsor chairs.

Making it Yours 5: Mid-Century Rocker
I’m hard at work today on the next round of Making it Yours (MiY). In this upcoming fifth edition, I’ll base five different rooms around the Mid-Century Rocker Chair. My intention is for the chair to be a readily available stand-in for the true vintage Danish modern chairs that pop up frequently on Craigslist and eBay.
Remember, this is what my Making it Yours series is all about:
I really love the way rooms come together over time, with special pieces finding their way into different rooms at different stages of one’s life. A chair that was once on your front porch might show up in your son’s room five years later, in the family room after that, and maybe twenty years later in a vacation home. Pieces that you carry with you throughout your life become more than just an object you bought at some store, they become part of your personal history.
The rocker will make its way into two versions of a living room, a bedroom, a reading nook/library, and a kid’s room. I’ll have the first room ready for you soon, and I hope you’ll enjoy following along again. I’m excited about this one!

Substituting for the Soleil Chair
I’m turning my attention once again to the front porch. Remember, I gave the furniture that was out there to my mom (whom I visiting this weekend for her birthday, so maybe I’ll get some photos of the table and chairs in her yard).
I got as far as putting new benches on each end of the porch before stalling out and moving on to other projects. Summer is short though, and I want to finish so I’m back on the job! I think I just need to add a chair, a little side table or maybe a coffee table, plus plants. I’ve always liked this Soleil Lounge Chair, but I recently realized that I have a similarly shaped chair already. It was from Pier 1 (a long time ago). Here it is in a photo from a few years back:
I know it’s not an exact match, but it’s free. I’m considering spray painting it, though I don’t know what color. In white I think the lines of the chair would make it a decent substitute for the Soleil, but why limit myself to white? I mean, there’s always pink. Or yellow. Or green. Or…

Eames Rocker
We may be buying an Eames rocker for the living room!
Well, technically, it would be a “fiberglass shell chair” from Modernica. It’s an Eames rocker without the Eames license (though I’d argue that they’re just as authentic if not more so). Now I’m trying to decide on a color… hmmm.
Natural is nice, but so is white. Mustard looks yummy, but I’m afraid I’ll tire of it and it may not look right with the yellow curtains we already have. I thought the pink was too vivid, but it’s beautiful in this photo from Rachel’s House Tour on Apartment Therapy.
I’m wondering if the pink might be too much in my living room though, since we do already have pale pink walls and a pink zigzag rug. I think I love it in Rachel’s home because it’s an isolated spot of color.
I would put the rocker near the window and the Eames LCW that’s there now would be relocated to another room.
Another thing to keep in mind is that there is a sort of an Eames/Nelson knockoff chair (from IKEA) in Brandon’s office that’s right off the living room.
Would it be strange to see the real thing and a modified version in such proximity? Especially if both chairs were the same color?
Thoughts?

Hoping for a Productive Weekend
We have rolls and rolls of wallpaper for the dining room just sitting on a closet shelf. The dining room needs to be primed with wallpaper sizing first – not sure if I should be doing that. We have all of the supplies though… I’ve been tempted to just start the project already.
Have any of you hung wallpaper? I’m trying to convince Brandon that we should do it this weekend, but he wants to wait until his mom is in for Thanksgiving because she’s done it before. Sounds good, except we have a photo shoot coming up (yay!). I’m not sure when it will be exactly, but I know it will be soon and I would like the dining room to be finished in time.
Plus I’m sick of looking at the dining room with its one little section of green wall. It’s been that way since, oh, March.
I think I’ll get the pink fabric on the chairs at least. We have five chairs with green fabric and one with the green zigzags in the photo. Again, since March. Awesome.
