Screen Play

The Winter 2014 issue of Anthology is out, and I’m in their ‘Screen Play’ spread, talking about a movie that’s near and dear to me. When I told Brandon, he first guessed Grease, (a good guess), then got it right with The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Brandon’s such a movie guy, and we have a lot of friends that are into films. I’ve seen plenty of ‘good’ (critically-acclaimed, universally acknowledged as such) movies, but my favorites? I like a bit of camp. Better yet, I like campy musicals.

Favorite Movies

I swear, I have seen movies that were made post-1982. Now, where has our copy of Little Shop of Horrors (1986!) gone to? I know what I’m streaming while I work today…

Seven Years

Our first house was ninety seven when we bought it. Our Victorian was one hundred and twenty two. My marriage and corresponding wedding ring will turn ten this year, but it’s also the year my engagement ring turns one hundred. August will be three next month, and in April, Eleanor will be five. Today, Making it Lovely is seven years old.

Wil We Have Rainbows
I designed that print a few years ago, and you can download it here, for free. It’s hanging in the play room on the third floor, which I haven’t shared with you yet!

Seven years ago, I started this blog as Brandon and I moved into our first home. It feels really good to still be writing here, in a new (even older) home now. The kids, when we talked to them about moving, wanted to move to “a rainbow house.” We found it. We’re here. And I get to share everything about transforming and personalizing a home with you again, from the beginning.

Thank You!

Thanks for following along, day after day.

A New Year

Watercolor Experiments

It’s a new year, and I’ve been busy painting. Painting the bedroom. Painting with watercolors and gouache. Painting goals and plans with big, loose brush strokes. We’re in this big new house, and my dreams have been scaled to match.

I want that book deal I’m chasing. I want to make our home beautiful and personal. I want our family to grow, and along with it, the amount of love in this house. I want to grow as an artist, even if it just means drawing and painting with the kids.

I’m not one for resolutions, but I am excited for the new year, and I’m looking forward to sharing it all with you. Let’s do this, 2014!
