    The Wallpapered Dining Room

I love it. It’s exactly what I’ve wanted since we first decided to buy this house, and I even chose one of the wallpapers I was originally considering.

Here’s a completely empty ‘before’ shot:

And a nice ‘after’ to compare it to:

Wallpapering a house that’s almost 100 years old (while being five months pregnant) wasn’t exactly the easiest project we’ve done. I wouldn’t say that it was hard, just very time-consuming. It probably took us about 15 hours, but we’re so proud of the job we’ve done.

I had ordered 4 yards of pink upholstery fabric on eBay for $10, so I used that on the chairs and along the back of the built-in hutch.

I love the way the living and dining rooms work together.

    Hoping for a Productive Weekend

We have rolls and rolls of wallpaper for the dining room just sitting on a closet shelf. The dining room needs to be primed with wallpaper sizing first – not sure if I should be doing that. We have all of the supplies though… I’ve been tempted to just start the project already.

    Fabric & Wallpaper

Have any of you hung wallpaper? I’m trying to convince Brandon that we should do it this weekend, but he wants to wait until his mom is in for Thanksgiving because she’s done it before. Sounds good, except we have a photo shoot coming up (yay!). I’m not sure when it will be exactly, but I know it will be soon and I would like the dining room to be finished in time.

Plus I’m sick of looking at the dining room with its one little section of green wall. It’s been that way since, oh, March.

    ZigZag Chair Fabric

I think I’ll get the pink fabric on the chairs at least. We have five chairs with green fabric and one with the green zigzags in the photo. Again, since March. Awesome.

    The Wallpaper is Here!

    It’s so pretty.

    Fabric & Wallpaper

It looks good with the pink upholstery fabric I bought on eBay too. I’m going to put white curtains up instead of ivory, and I think the rug could stay (for now at least).

    Fabric & Wallpaper

I was going to paint the ceiling the same color as the living room, but I don’t think it will look as good as I thought it would. Maybe white, gray (to match or a little darker), or pink?

    Four New Dining Room Ideas

    These are my latest ideas…

    Four Dining Room Ideas

The constants throughout all four designs are the ivory curtains (from Crate & Barrel, now discontinued), the lighting fixture (from west elm), the dining table and chairs (vintage, from Jubilee Furniture), and the wood trim and floors in our home. Also, I may edge the curtains with a coordinating solid to pick up on the other elements in each design.

    Ritzy Stripe Chair

I upholstered one chair as a test in Amy Butler’s Ritzy Stripe fabric.

    ZigZag Chair Fabric

It looks great, but I’m not sure what to do for the rest of the room. Creamy white walls and a green ceiling? A green rug?

Photos of Drew Barrymore’s Flower Films offices (in the April ’08 issue of Domino) have been making the rounds on the design blogs recently, and I love the curtains in Nancy Juvonen’s office.

Perhaps I could do something similar, but with green or black trim.

I’m also still obsessed with the black and white rug I saw during my recent IKEA visit. Is it too much with the chair pattern? I know, it probably is. Maybe I’d use the rug and then go with a solid chair fabric.

    Amy Butler’s Ritzy Stripe Fabric

Yes? The colors go better together than they appear to in the photos above. I think the different scales of the patterns might work together (maybe?).

Why is this the one room where I can’t make a decision? Meh.

Amy Butler Fabric in the Dining Room

    Looks pretty good.

Ritzy Stripe (the zigzags) on the chairs, and Primrose (the other fabric) for curtains? It’s lacking some ‘oomph’ though. Maybe that wall color is too dark.

I wish those zigzags came in hot pink. Or pink and aubergine!
