    Peachy Pinky Coral

It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of pink, but lately it’s peach and coral that have my heart.

This was a fun one to photograph. Usually I’d put this type of post together in Photoshop, but I rather like seeing everything actually grouped together!

    Style: Pink Ballet Maxi Skirt

I bought this pink ballet maxi skirt earlier in the month, and posted about not being sure how to pull it off. I still need to find a good black and white striped top (what kind of blogger am I to not own one!?), but I’ve owned the skirt for three weeks and worn it three times. Pretty good for a completely impractical item of clothing, I’d say.

    1. Ballet Maxi Skirt

    2. Leather Obi Belt
Similar — mine was from Anthropologie.

    3. Fanned Alloy Necklace
Similar — mine was from J.Crew.

    4. Regina Wedges
      You’ve seen these before.

    5. Brass Teardrop Bangles
Similar — I’ve had mine for ages.

    6. All of Blushing Bag
OK, this would probably rip the skirt to shreds. “Look out kids, mama’s got her spikes today!”

    Style: March ’12

Well. Yesterday was hard. Let’s have something a bit lighter today, hmmm?

I approach these style posts in one of two ways. I either start with some beautiful item, like a dress, and build a look around it, or I recreate an outfit I already own. Here are some items that are similar to what I’m wearing, and I’ll explain my thought process a little more below.

    Eleanor

    1. Gramercy Grand Watch

    2. Baripada Necklace

    3. Pink & White Striped Tee

    4. Ampersand Gold Ring

    5. White Skirt

    6. Harlequin Sweetie

    7. Regina Wedges

    8. Hooverville Burgundy Glasses

(Eleanor ran in on my photo shoot setup, and I thought she looked so cute. Toddler photo bomb!)

My outfit above was a mix of new and old, but mostly old. I picked up the necklace before Alt Summit to wear while speaking on my panel. The shoes are new, and they will see me through to the fall, but the skirt I’m wearing is seven or eight years old, the watch is three, and I showed the bag last year when I bought it on sale.

Some of the similar items on my board above are more expensive (like the skirt) and some are less (like the top). Budgets vary from person to person, and while I’m not putting Louboutin wedges in my posts, the Regina wedges I did include may still be too pricey for some. I chose them because I have found that I usually regret cheapie shoe purchases, and I’d rather have one good pair that will last. If you’ve had better luck than I have with inexpensive shoes, feel free to sub. Same thing with the watch. I bought mine shortly after Eleanor was born, probably for around $70, but I showed the Kate Spade Gramercy above because it’s beautiful and it’s the type of watch I have: gold, oversized, with a similar band. Perhaps you already own one like it, too.

Putting a little effort and thought into the way I get dressed makes me feel better, and putting style posts together is fun. Thanks for letting me share them with you! Hopefully I’ve explained the thought behind them, but I’d love to hear what you think.

Channel your inner Linda Evangelista with this pillow, and then hope luck is on your side with a gold wishbone keychain. Or if not, go incognito with some oversized sunnies.

  • Pink and Gold Business Cards

    Pink and Gold Business Cards

I have my new business cards, just in the nick of time for Alt Summit! My old cards were cute, but it was time for something new.

Shiny gold foil printing on thick pink card stock. I designed them, then redesigned them, then overdesigned them, and in the end I redid the whole thing and ended up with this simple layout. I had them printed by Eagle Printing, here in Chicago.

And that’s my new logo on the cards. I think it’s a nice update, and not a radical departure from the logo I’ve had for the first five years. The cards will match the blog once I launch the redesign next month.

p.s. I rounded up 10 of my favorite business card designs right over here.

  • The (Mini) Bathroom Fixtures are Here

The (Mini) Bathroom Fixtures are Here

Hmmm. I wanted them to look like candy, but um, they don’t. They look like badly glazed dollhouse furniture.

Do you think I should try to repaint the fixtures, or leave them as-is? I do like how luminous the glaze is, even if it is terribly uneven. The bathroom will be the small room on the second floor of my dollhouse. I think I’m going to use that gold patterned paper as wallpaper, and I’ll probably make a different mirror to go above the sink. The ceiling will either be wallpapered along with the walls, or it will go shiny gold.

I’ve been thinking about this whole dollhouse challenge. I think there are two ways for me to go about decorating mine…

    • Tastefully decorate the house so that the only way you could tell it’s a miniature is with a coin in there for scale. Design each room like I’d design a real room, just scaled down.
    • Go crazy and kooky. This is not a real house, dang it! Why not have gold ceilings and pink fixtures and hot pink stairs with striped runners (not that I’ve decided yet)?

I’ll tell you, I think the second option sounds like a lot more fun. It’s a fantasy! Why not fully embrace that?

How many of you are working on dollhouses along with us? How are you approaching yours?
