We Adopted a Dog!
He’s somewhere between 4-6 months old, and we adopted him today from the Animal Care League here in Oak Park.
He has the best personality - he’s just super sweet, calm, and lovable. He went between snuggling up to me and snuggling up to Brandon most of the time, just back and forth, wanting to be pet.
We took him for a walk (he was very good), and we can visit him Monday and Tuesday. He’s getting neutered on Wednesday, and then we can go pick him up on Thursday.
He’s such a sweetie! Now we need to think of a name…

Aw! He is adorable!
I just spent a ridiculous amount of money at Petsmart today so I could spoil my new pup. haha, puppies do that to you! Be prepared.
If my Edie was a boy, I wanted to name her Ph/finneus. Ph/Finn for short. Finn or Henry are my suggestions!
Congrats on the new pup! He looks like he will be a faithful companion for many years to come. Speaking of faithful, how about a throw back name like Fido? You never hear dogs named Fido anymore!
Aww, he’s adorable! I’m glad you decided to adopt… my adopted beagle is the sweetest, cutest dog in the whole world, i swear.
Well done for adopting a dog from a shelter! When you were talking about dog quizzes & breeds on a previous post I got the impression you were shopping for a purebred. I’m really happy to hear that you helped find a home for this little guy, rather than getting one ‘made to order’ from a breeder, or worse, ‘off the rack’ at a pet store!
:)
Good that they do the neutering, then you get to be his “loving rescuers” and not “those people who did this to me.” Congrats! I can’t wait for the adventures.
ohmygoodness! he is so adorable! he looks like an “Amos” or “Oliver” to me..let me know when he’s home and I can send him some yummy “Welcome to your new home” treats! (just email me your addie)
You guys are the dogliest people ever! I have been surprised to see no dogily child in that house of yours… congratulations!
That’s not a pug! ^_~
He’s soooooo cute!
Puppy = win
Adoption + Neuter = +1 million points ^_^
Name suggestion: Maple
The rings around his eyes are just the colour of syrup!
Finnegan? Monty? Digby/Rigby? Tucker?
Let us know when you name him!!
What a kawaii puppy dog.
How big is he going to get?? Are you going to crate train him?? If he is going to be inside for the 1st few days/weeks I recommend getting some “puppy pads” for him to pee on (they have a special smell that attracts the dog to go pee on it) We live in an apartment and have to always use them for our puppy and they really work (most of the time, lol)
I’m from Australia and popular dogs name here is Bouncer (There was a famous dog named Bouncer on a 1980’s soap)or Bluey, but thats more for a blue heeler.
oooo! congrats!
we adopted a puppy about a week ago from the animal care & control here in rva! she’s about 7 months old.
can’t wait to hear what his name is!
Congrats! he is so cute. I hate those boring dog names but for some reason, he looks like a Rex. Name #2 is Pancake.
Congratulations on your new family member and also for doing something positive for the community. Good luck with chosing a name… “Obie” aka: Obie-Wan Kenobi (I saw the star wars figurine in your house pics) is just a suggestion.
oh he’s adorable! i say wait a few days and get to know his personality to figure a name that really fits him.
We’re the goofy kind of family that drags out a baby name book when a new furry child joins our ranks, thus we have Hurley Monroe (our Golden Retriever), Sweet Margarita, aka “Sweetie” (our Chihuahua), Willie Flynn (our Yorkie), and Evelyn May, aka “Yahoo” (our spastic Chorkie, the love child of Sweetie and Willie). I don’t know but the cocked ear makes me think of “Seamus O’Malley” … like he’s saying, “Fancy a pint at the corner pub, Love?”
Adorable - those photos just make me melt!
And, I just wanted to give kudos to you for your lovely blog as well - I stumbled across it tonight and I love it so far. :)
Oh. My. Goodness. He’s so, so cute! He has the most adorable face. He’s so perfect. Any ideas yet on a name? I always end up giving my pets people names for some reason.
Good luck with your little guy!
ah, that just makes my heart melt. what a cutie. i think you’ll find it’s the best thing you ever did. i adopted cooper, and although i miss him terribly everyday (he passed away suddenly in october), his love was the best i ever got. rescue dogs just give such love. congratulations!!
Congratulations!! He’s such a sweetie!!
And not just that, but THANKS! In the name of everyone that works with strays and abandoned animals, thanks! Here in Argentina there’s so many dogs needing homes, and I am always trying to place animals in adoption, so when you see cases like this, makes me super super happy
*hugs*
Hope you guys have fun with this sweetie!!!
Congratulations on the addition to your family! He’s so sweet! I like him, and I’m not even a dog person. Also: You’re so awesome for adopting a stray and not going to a breeder. He’ll love you forever for it!
my suggestion is Brikki. Brandon + Nikki (lol im not sure if anyone calls you that!).
Congrats he is really adorable. He has a very kind face :)
Kudos for adopting a dog from a shelter! All of the best pets I’ve ever known have been rescue pets - including my own sweet kitty cat. :)
He looks like an “Eli” to me. So cute!
Congratulations on your newest member of your family! My husband and I got our first dog before we were married and now have two dogs and two cats - we call them our “fur family” because we haven’t started having kids yet - much to the despair of our parents and grandparents who all want more little ones running around - for now our “fur family” is all we are ready for (let alone all we can handle). And kudos for adopting from a shelter and giving hope to a dog in need!
I am very happy that you adopted a dog. There are so many homeless dogs in shelter and you helped save one- congrats and I am proud of you both! I have a rescued also. I highly recommend that you check out an awesome dog psychologist named Cesar Millan. He has a show on National Geo and all he talks about is training us- people to be a responsible dog owner, http://www.cesarmillaninc.com/
Congrats again!
OMG he is divine. congratulation syou guys must be so chuffed. cant wait to see more pics of him growing up.
xxoo
He’s adorable! And yay for you on adopting from a shelter. I wish I could take them all home. So far, just 3 !! but I think that’s our limit.
What an adorable dog!! Makes me what to go an adopt a dog now.
We use to have a dog that looks like your pup and we named him Milo.
Congrats to you and your pup! And most of all, congrats for saving a life by adopting from a shelter.
He looks like quite a sweetie!
Congratulations and I think it’s awesome you adopted him from a shelter (both of my cats are shelter cats).
Cindy
He sure is cute. Congrats on your new baby. I love his ear. Those eyes will get him out of a lot of trouble!
What a handsome fellow. Kudos to you for adopting your little guy. I adopted my Maggie when she was between 6 and 8 years old. Miss M passed away last year. If I ever get another dog, he or she will definitely be from a shelter. Congratulations on the new addition to your family!!
What a great face! He looks like a “Hank” to me. Whatever name you’re thinking of, you have to practice hollering it.
“Heeennnnrrrreee!” makes me think of the B52’s… ;)
wow- what a cutie! just wait until he gets comfortable with you- that’s when you’ll see the true puppy come out! enjoy~Kate
Emily said: “Name suggestion: Roscoe :)”
My husband took one look at the dog and said, “That dog looks like a Roscoe!”
Yea! Congratulations on the new addition. My two cents is he looks like a Jake (and because Cutie isn’t very masculine).
Congrats! Speaking as the lucky step-mom of an 11year old lab and a ferocious 20lb cat you will be amazed at how much love you will feel for him. If you’re looking for suggestions I offer “Linus” and “Gus”.
aww, how cute! I personally think he looks like a Bobbie, but I like Oliver too. Interestingly enough though, my first thought when I saw him was Fido, so you could also go with that suggestion from Erica. I wish you and your new doggie the best!!
Coming from a girl with a dog named Hamburger (Burger for short) may I suggest Tater Tot?
We saw a dog with that name in a shelter once and almost had to adopt him right there sheerly based on his name. Wouldn’t it seem that Hamburger and Tater Tot were destined to be the best of friends? Unfortunately Tater was already spoken for.
Sniffle.
xo,
Oh my gosh, I LOVE him. He is soooo cute! I mean- just look at those ears (I have a weakness for floppy puppy ears)!
His name is Murray!
He’s adorable! We adopted our dog Speckles from the Animal Care League in Oak Park too! We love her so much. They are great over there! So kind.
Congratulations!
There is NOTHING like having a dog in your life. Even though he may sometime piss on your floor, you’ll adore him forever.

He’s adorable. You could name him Lovely. Not a very boyish name though. :)
