  • My Office No Longer Looks Like This

    My Office

    Not that it looked all that bad, but I knew it could be better. I had my cubes on the other side of the room.

    My office was one of the first rooms we set up when we moved in nearly three years ago. We had to do it right away since I work from home, but I’ve been contemplating a redo for quite some time.

    We used to have CD towers on each side of the cubes, but we were able to get rid of those now that we’re consolidating all of our media storage into Brandon’s office. Getting rid of those towers allowed me to rearrange the room, and having an electrician add a second outlet allowed me to move my computer. I have a new desk and some new storage, and soon I will take new photos for you!

  • Trying to Sew a Slipcover

    I had this idea a year and a half ago to slipcover my desk chair, and I’ve finally gotten around to trying it. Guess what… it’s way harder than I thought it would be! Of course, I am a novice seamstress at best, but I’ve had some sewing successes and I thought I could do this. Well, I made three pocket-like things that are fitting (sort of), but I have no idea how to connect them. I’ve been sitting on my chair like this for about a week now…

    TRYING to make a new cover

    There’s no shame in giving up on a crafty project, right? What about you guys? Have you had better success with this type of thing? Do tell.

    The desk was left behind by our home’s previous owners, and the chair is from IKEA. Brandon doesn’t work from home like I do, so we figured that the chair would be fine for light, occasional use. It looks nice but unfortunately it has developed a loud creak that we can’t fix.

  • "Chili" Lamp?

    "Chili" Lamp?

    I bought a new lamp from Pier 1 yesterday. I’m not sure if it’s actually called “Chili” (I think that’s just the color), but it wasn’t on the website and I don’t remember what the name was on the tag.

    I’m not 100% sure about it yet. Keep it? Return it?

    It would be for my office. I love the lamp that I have in there now, but the power switch is somewhat broken and now it hurts my wrist to turn it off.

    I’ve been thinking about getting the Lights Up! Nikki Table Lamp:

    That one is $185 though, and the lamp that I bought was only $75. Still, I’d rather spend the extra money and get the lamp I really want instead of skimping and getting one that’s only so-so. The problem is that I’m not sure which one I want…

    Brandon’s Office, Updated

    I made just a few changes to Brandon’s office…

    First, a big thank you to everyone for your input (White Molded Chairs)! We chose option #3, and the old broken chair was replaced with IKEA’s Jakob swivel chair. As I had mentioned before, this isn’t a true home office – Brandon only sits there for short periods white internet surfing or playing around with iTunes. We both find the new chair comfortable, though it probably wouldn’t be great as a full-time office chair.

    The pendant (which we had already switched out earlier) was replaced with an $8 orange shade. I also switched out the rug. I liked the one that was already in there, but at 3’x5′, it was a little too small. I grabbed the brown and white rug that was in my office (5’x7′), and the size is much better. An orange pillow from west elm (from a few years ago) completed the room.

    And now, because it’s fun, I threw together another magazine-style layout with sources:

    The house is really coming together now! We’ve only had bits and pieces done until now, but it’s so much more satisfying to see it shape up as a whole. Here’s another view:

    I love the dashes of white and orange in all three rooms. Cohesiveness makes me happy. :)
