Making it Yours (MIY) is all about using the furniture you have in new ways and taking pieces with you throughout your life. In this edition of MIY, our fictional homeowner has moved from a home with a breakfast nook and room for four Real Good Chairs to a new home where the chairs will have to be split up. First up, we’ll see one of the chairs in a home office.
The basics of the room are neutral. Soft grayish white walls, an interesting white desk, a simple bookshelf, and a handsome file cabinet make up the foundation. A graphic pencil cup adds pattern, and for color we have orangey/red carpet tiles and an orange desk lamp. Blancucha’s Monsieur III print in a simple frame adds a little more color and fun, and russel + hazel’s collator corrals clutter on the desk.
Next, we’ll see one of the chairs in a bedroom.

December 30, 2008 at 3:08 pmThis office looks fantastic, Nicole. I have a question about the Ribba frame. I love Ikea frames, but like many people I’m frustrated by the sizes. Do you buy custom matting? The “Monsieur III” print is 8×11, but the closest Ribba frame is 8 1/4 x 10 3/4.

December 30, 2008 at 4:49 pmSean, custom mats are usually only a few dollars. Or sometimes I’m lazy and don’t get around to it, so I’d just live with the extra 1/8″ on each side of the print. ;)

December 30, 2008 at 7:08 pmWow! Thank you so much mentioning my pencil cup! It’s really cool to see something I made in amongst these…ahem…’real’ products, haha. Even after longer than a year in the paper biz…it still feels weirdly like a hobby! Thank you for making my day. : )
