I tried to resist. I really did. I didn’t want to set Eleanor up for a lifetime of elephant gifts (or worse an unfortunate alliterative nickname), as cute as the pachyderms may be. Then I saw these little guys and they were only $6.
(from Cost Plus World Market)
Sorry, baby. Years from now when you’re surrounded by stuffed animals and figurines, all elephant-themed, you can blame me.

March 23, 2010 at 12:36 pmI loved my pink elephant and I’m sure she’ll love hers!As long as you don’t show dad or Cathy I think you’ll be ok on the elephant-themed gifts :)

March 23, 2010 at 12:46 pmin the first sonogram, our baby looked like a bunny…i feel your pain.

March 23, 2010 at 12:57 pmAs someone with an “E” name, I recommend teaching Eleanor A LOT of different words that start with the letter E.
I remember playing name games in grade school and dreading having to take my turn, since the only word I could ever think of that began with the letter E was elephant. Ahhh the tragic life of a 6 year old. :)

March 23, 2010 at 1:01 pmStory of my life, but with penguins. But since I loved them anyway (or was trained to love them), I didn’t mind.

March 23, 2010 at 1:27 pmThose are darling. I can’t resist giraffes, but my son (now 22 months) loves bunny rabbits, and trains. So now everything is either a bunny or a train.

March 23, 2010 at 1:35 pmAdorable! I purchased similar ones from World Market for my niece. One caveat – the ones I purchased had a warning label about not being suitable for children due to small pieces coming off – so my niece’s are hung out of reach until she is past the “everything into her mouth” stage. :-)

March 23, 2010 at 2:00 pmMy husband’s Grandma Ele (also Eleanor) gave small plush elephants to each of her sixteen grandchildren when they were born. I always thought that was the sweetest thing.

March 23, 2010 at 3:10 pmI don’t imagine that you’ll go overboard. But be sure to check out this book about opposites, if you don’t already have it: Elephant Elephant: A Book of Opposites (sorry, I don’t know how to link to it). I think you will love it.

March 23, 2010 at 4:11 pmAs an Eleanor who LOVES elephants, I don’t think a lifetime of themed gifts is necessarily a bad thing! Who knows, she might thank you one day. Really cute garland :)

March 23, 2010 at 4:50 pmMy sister is an “Ellie” and she’s always embraced her name association with elephants, but as someone who once told a grandparent that I liked the color purple, and then received purple gifts from all sorts of relatives for the following ten years or so, I think it’s wise not to pigeonhole your kid too soon!

March 23, 2010 at 9:37 pmThose are too cute. There are a lot of things worse than elephants.

March 24, 2010 at 7:47 amIn Thai culture, elephants have to be facing outward because they bring you protection and luck. I guess you could say it’s our version of feng shui :)

My best friends newest baby is Ella and I call her baby Ellaphant. I really want to find something for her with elephants holding umbrellas, but no luck yet! Her 3 year old sister calls her marshmELLA. :)

March 28, 2010 at 10:36 amI’ve decorated our nursery based off the bedding and there’s a distinct owl theme. My husband insists I’ve now cursed our baby with getting nothing but owl related stuff for the rest of her life. So far there have only been a few baby gifts that were owl related
Elephants are personally my favorite and I still have a eclectic collection up in our bedroom.
Those elephants are too cute!

March 28, 2010 at 7:40 pmWhen I was small my mom made me a floral-bodied stuffed animal called Ellie the Elegant Elephant. She looked a lot like this.
For what it’s worth? AWESOME.
