I happened to walk by a store as they were five minutes away from closing up for good. The cashiers were shouting out “everything is under $1!”, so I stopped in to check out the remaining merchandise.
These birds may be a little odd, but they’ll be perfect as Thanksgiving decorations. At ten cents each (for a total of $0.32 after tax), I figured I may as well grab them. They would have been $93 had they been full price. Isn’t that crazy?
They’re way too weird to have paid full price for them.

April 5, 2010 at 9:54 amI would put that little bird out All YEAR.

April 5, 2010 at 10:21 amTypically I’m madly in love with everything you show, but I have to say I find faux taxidermic birds a bit disturbing :/

April 5, 2010 at 10:23 amHaha! Those are so quirky! If it was April 1st I would’ve been sure this was an April Fools joke. ; )

April 5, 2010 at 12:24 pmOh my. They made me jump a little lol! They’re one of those things that are so ugly that they become cute hehe Definitely wouldn’t have paid the full price… amazing bargain!!

April 5, 2010 at 12:44 pmThose are so funny! Seems like it would be cool to paint the big ones all one color, like white. I don’t want to look too closely at their waddles, starts to creep me out! We have a super creepy elf we got at christmas, and it’s so weird/ugly it’s a tradition now!

April 5, 2010 at 1:16 pmThese totally scare me…
But great deal!

April 5, 2010 at 1:19 pmYikes. Those are ugly. Thank God you didn’t pay $93 for them!

April 5, 2010 at 1:25 pmwow, that turkey is so hideous that it is kind of fascinating. I like it! A conversation piece at the very least. Plus I would love to hear what my mom would say if she came over and saw that on my table…. I dont know about your mom, but mine definitely doesn’t appreciate my “quirkier” style attempts.
Gail
April 5, 2010 at 1:35 pmI don’t think they would be that bad if you had pumpkins, leaves and other Fall decorations surrounding them!
Regardless…you scored a phenomenal deal!!!
PS You could use some paint to lighted the waddle…I think it is the blood red color that is freaking people out. At .10 – if you mess it up – who cares!!!
Helen
April 5, 2010 at 2:59 pmThat makes me sad to hear. $93 is insanely high, but it’s sad to hear businesses having to resort to more-than-rock-bottom prices to make whatever they can before they close down.

April 5, 2010 at 4:34 pmHi :D I was just stopping by your blog to check things out and I am totally in love with it :D It’s so awesome and your design frickin’ rawks!! I will definitely be keeping you as a daily read :D

April 5, 2010 at 4:37 pmThe turkeys scare me a bit, bit the little one is very cute!

April 5, 2010 at 5:21 pmAt $93 retail I can see why the store went under. I like the small bird a lot; the two larger ones would look better “diluted” by other fall decorations. The wattles look like tumors on their chests….

April 5, 2010 at 5:23 pmI would have scooped them up, too. I like them! They are quirky. More so, I love the wallpaper in that room!

April 5, 2010 at 10:25 pmHaha, those are some damn ugly birds!
Kylie
April 6, 2010 at 7:14 amMmm I can see why they were 32 cents!
Melinda
April 6, 2010 at 8:27 amJust don’t put them on or near the dinner table. Your guests probably wouldn’t want those things staring at them while they ate. Although, maybe they’re less creepy in person. You could make little pilgrim outfits for them :)
Cute wallpaper by the way.

April 6, 2010 at 8:37 amI think I might like them better if they were painted over. Shades of pink and brown? Except for the little guy, he just needs an accessory or something. Maybe a pilgrim hat?
Melanie
April 6, 2010 at 6:06 pmHa! No wonder the store was going out of business!

April 7, 2010 at 3:48 pmi would use the little bird all the time, but the bigger ones creep me out pretty hardcore haha :x

April 8, 2010 at 4:03 amOk- what did you recently say: “Sometimes I like a little touch of the bizarre (or even a little ugly) in decor. It keeps things interesting!”
I agreed with you regarding the elephant plant stand. but this? this is too weird. they would have to pay ME 93 Dollar (i don´t have the sign for US-Dollar on my keyboard)
I liked the idea of painting them all white ;-))

October 19, 2011 at 5:05 pm…I read on someone’s blog somewhere, something like…’never buy something discounted that you would never buy at full price….’
