The roofers have been here since eight o’clock this morning, but hopefully we will have our new white roof before they leave tonight. All of the banging has made for a very unhappy (and loud) house today.

April 13, 2010 at 5:23 pmGood luck Nicole!
Hopefully all will be sorted out very soon.
Deep breaths and try to ignore the annoying noises. In the end it will all be better.

April 13, 2010 at 5:44 pmI feel your pain! We had our roof done when the baby was 5 mths! Somehow he was able to sleep through the noise! It was good preparation for when we had to jackhammer apart the basement floor – he slept through that as well! But somehow if I step on the squeaky floor board in the hallway outside his bedroom, he is instantly awake and screaming!

April 13, 2010 at 5:52 pmThank goodness you don’t have a homeowners association. We went to replace our roof last year and they approved our request for the color, but I guess didn’t like it cause it didn’t match exactly with ALL the other houses. So we had to change it halfway through. I’m very excited to see the new look! I’m sure it will be amazing!

April 13, 2010 at 6:41 pmWe’re only redoing the flat roof on the addition, so you won’t even be able to see it. The white roofing is an environmental choice, not an aesthetic one!

April 13, 2010 at 7:26 pmWe had our exterior remodeled, and phew…For such a long time my house has been looking like…ewww..and now it looks like woo hoo! It took a month..because our contractor bailed on us, and then we hire somebody we could trust..and they finished it in 3 days…three very very loud long days!

April 13, 2010 at 8:25 pmI’m new to the blogging world and stumbled upon your delightful little world today – and was mega impressed! Your home is beautiful! Hope you don’t mind but I shared some images on my blog and linked back – hope that’s ok :)

April 13, 2010 at 8:48 pmI hope everything goes well and gets done fast! I’m interested in hearing how you like the white roof. We’re installing one on a building I’m designing in WI (going for LEED silver). Reflection is the biggest concern. But hopefully you don’t have any taller houses nearby.

April 14, 2010 at 6:47 amI feel your pain! When we have something major done like this I know it needs to be done, but all I can think about is that I could have decorated a room, or bought a sofa, or a fabulous set of dishes….
You have such a charming home. When I saw it I said out loud, “Oh, how lovely”. So your roofing pains were well worth keeping this gem of a house in tip top (pun) shape!
Thanks for the reminder!

April 14, 2010 at 7:55 amAll of our houses have had white corrugated iron roofs and I love them – aesthetically and practically! It is hot here for most of the year and it really does make a difference with heat reflection. I hope you are happy with yours once it is installed :)

April 14, 2010 at 11:48 pmI hope it got done! I am actually in Chicago this week…we were driving past all the adorable houses that reminded me of yours this morning. I wish I had more time here to do more Chicago-y things!

April 15, 2010 at 2:03 amHow’s the roof coming along? We just started our garage roof repair yesterday and they should be finished by Saturday. Our roof also serves as a deck so we will be purchasing rocking chairs for the deck. I was thinking Lowes but would love any other suggestions. Thanks :)
