The Decorate book tour brought Holly Becker to Anthropologie in Chicago last night. I had interviewed Holly about her book a couple of weeks ago, and I was looking forward to meeting her.
She spoke about creating mood boards, offering tips for creating them and several compelling reasons to do so.
Holly was one of my earliest blogging friends and supporters, so it was a real pleasure to finally meet her!
I spoke briefly after Holly about the way that I use and create digital mood boards. I was also the Vanna to Holly’s Pat Sajak during the mood board portion. It was fun, and an honor to be a part of her book tour.
After we spoke, Holly invited the audience to create their own mood board using fabric swatches, wallpaper samples, buttons, images from magazines, and other lovely things.
Holly graciously signed copies of Decorate after the presentation was over, and then a small group of us went out for dinner in my fair Chicago.
Holly is as smart and sweet as I had imagined, and I’m happy to see so much success coming her way. Decorate is in its third printing already! If you haven’t yet picked up your copy, please do. It’s an amazing book by a dear friend.

I’ve got that dress in brown! I’ve been really happy with my Talbots clothes lately – well made and less frumpy than you’d think from the brand. Usually swap out the sash for a belt with it.

I swap the sash for a belt sometimes too. I went to Talbots looking for something for my mom (and I did find something for her), but that dress (on clearance) came home with me.

Two of my favourite bloggers in one room – wish I was there! I just got my copy of Decorate and am devouring it slowly. Such great inspiration.

I already had my copy. I just wish I could have gotten downtown to have Holly sign it.

Nicole, I loved your interview of Holly – it brought so much insight into all of Holly’s hardwork and input to put together original, never-seen before spaces with such great advice from others in the design community. I really love your photos from the Chicago event. I attended just the book signing portion in Boston – but love to see the different mood boards and set-ups in the Anthropologie stores!

Holly’s answers to the interview questions were amazing. There’s a lot to learn from her.

what mood boards do you use? i love how you can make it look like the room is already completed. i have used olioboard in the past, but it turns out more like a swatch board than anything. any suggestions would be appreciated.
