How do you find color schemes for your home? I think it happens somewhat intuitively for me at this point, but I know I used to have to see all of the colors together before moving forward. I do still pull from fabrics, like from a really awesome throw pillow, or wallpaper. Even if I’m not actually using wallpaper in the space, it could be a good jumping off point. What about you?
I write for My Colortopia, and they’ve just put out a fun color quiz. I took it and my results were pretty accurate! No pink, but they’re probably not recommending that to anyone (because I’m the only adult that wants pink walls, ha). I’ve embedded the quiz below in case you want to give it a try. Let me know if it was accurate for you too (I’m curious!).
I have partnered with Glidden/ Akzo Nobel Paints to participate in the My Colortopia program but the thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

January 26, 2012 at 3:22 pmthey recommended “Powder Blush” to me! :)

January 26, 2012 at 3:25 pmThe quiz was not too far off, but not exactly spot-on either.
In their defense, I really like the colors generally associated with a 5 year old little girl’s room! So you’re not the only adult that likes pink walls ;)
The quiz was fun!

January 26, 2012 at 3:33 pmThis wasn’t very close for me. I tend to gravitate towards greens and blues, but those didn’t show up in my results. I actually got violet and two shades of pink. I do love pink but tend to use it more as an accent rather than a primary color in my home. And I don’t use purple at all! It was fun though, so thanks for sharing!

January 26, 2012 at 3:36 pmAh, so there are pinks in there! Weird that I didn’t get any.

January 26, 2012 at 3:45 pmThe palette it came back with was pretty much room
By room my house colours!! Weird.

January 26, 2012 at 3:48 pmMost of the palette came back much warmer than what I would normally choose… but when I picked the one (cool) color at the end, it basically gave me the exact colors I have in my house.

January 26, 2012 at 3:50 pmi got “sexy pink” as one of my recommended colors, and i’m NOT a pink person. =) other than that, it was pretty close for how i dress — lots of rich green, purple, and blue — but not necessarily how i decorate. or at least, how i *would* decorate, were we to have a budget for it. =)

January 26, 2012 at 3:50 pmhmm, i took the quiz three times and it’s giving me all grays and purples. when it comes to my home, it’s all varying shades of turquoise, green and a little blue.

January 26, 2012 at 3:51 pmI’m really not a big pink fan, but i got pink flamingo AND pink peony! shaded fern and warm gray flannel were in there too, and both colors in my house.. maybe i should incorporate some pink…

January 26, 2012 at 3:52 pmI actually got a couple of pinks. And a lot of purple.
Not that I don’t like a good pink, but I cannot stand purple and the other colors I was given weren’t even close to something I’d choose…
Perhaps the quiz knows me better than I know myself.

January 26, 2012 at 3:59 pmMine wasn’t really what I’d pick myself (violet)… but then again… it’s hard saying how you think others would define you :s Maybe my closest friends should take this for me, and then they’d get a closer answer!

January 26, 2012 at 4:03 pmI got two pinks!!!! lovelovelove pink, but not on walls…

January 26, 2012 at 4:03 pmI took it and ended up with Stone White (a light neutral gray), Icy Waterfall (a light powder blue), and Aztec Gold (a light brown). Funnily enough, it ended up almost matching my blog. hah. So pretty, incredibly accurate.

January 26, 2012 at 5:12 pmMmmm….no. Pretty far off…lots of violety colors and then something called “soft sage.” I like cool blues, greys and pops of fuschia. But the former YM-reader in me always loves a quiz. :)

January 26, 2012 at 5:23 pmThis was fun!! I will go and see what else is on the Colortopia site!

January 26, 2012 at 5:41 pmI ended up with purple and teal – my two favorite colors right now! I’m trying to figure out to incorporate more purple into my living space, but I’m coming up short. I worry it’ll look to flakey. Maybe you could do a blog post on purple to help me out? I can’t paint the walls (when we lived in a house – classic CO vs. CA – our walls were the same sort of teal-blue recommended for me), but I’d love to figure out how to throw some purple accents into my home.

January 26, 2012 at 6:16 pmMine was not me at all. It gave me two purples and a pink. No thanks.

January 26, 2012 at 6:44 pmHa! I got pink and I’m a total earth tones with bright reds kinda gal, funny!

January 26, 2012 at 8:22 pmnope! they recommended all neutral browns and greens with one dusty purple. probably because i like the mountains! but i would never use a camouflage palette in my house and i moved past purple in the 7th grade!

January 26, 2012 at 9:16 pmWanted to comment to say there was pink but I see quite a few other people found it too. I did only see if after randomly answering questions and trying it a second time since the first time wasn’t just colours not colours that were favourites but colours I would actively dislike in my home. They all seemed muddy and muted and I feel terribly depressed in rooms w/ colours like that after awhile usually. When I rolled dice to pick a response I got a pretty pink as one of the colours though.

January 26, 2012 at 9:49 pmBlue and gray — a bit lighter than I might choose, but right on the money in terms of pairing.

January 27, 2012 at 12:02 amI got Pink Ballet Slipper on mine which looks like your living room.
It wasn’t really ‘on’ for me, though some of the palettes they came up with were nice. I don’t really like that they ask if I like soft or bold colors because the answer to that would be both.
Amy
January 27, 2012 at 1:06 amI got pink ballet slipper. Cute quiz.
Natalie
January 27, 2012 at 5:48 amI liked 1/7 of the suggested palettes – the one that intrigued me was a golden yellow, light gray, and eggplant. Other than that, mine were all soft pastels (including pink ballet slipper!) which is not my style at all.
Natalie
January 27, 2012 at 5:52 amJust took it again to see if I’d get better results, and I got both Pink Peony *and* Pink Flamingo! Weird that it didn’t give Nicole any pinks, and I can’t seem to escape them. :)
Tracy
January 27, 2012 at 6:08 amI got Pink Flamingo and Pink Peony and Various shades of lavender, sage green, butter yellow. Pretty much the Pottery Barn Kids little girls colors. Those colors do appeal to me, but I am really drawn to grays, aquas and corals right now.
So weird that you didn’t get pink, Nicole…
Erin
January 27, 2012 at 7:09 amIt gave me pink! (Along with a handful of grays/other neutrals, and a periwinkleish blue.) Not accurate at all, actually! I have all cool-colored walls (blue, purple, green) and I was just noticing this morning that red-orange somehow gradually wound up being my main accent color in every single room of my house (yeah…including the purple room). Also, I can think of few colors I like less than periwinkle. Ew.

January 27, 2012 at 7:47 amI’ve been using Pinterest and pinning things I like, my style has definitely started to show through. Ever since I saw this Domino cover with Drew Barrymore http://justjared.buzznet.com/2008/03/17/drew-barrymore-domino-magazine/ I’ve wanted pink walls in my studio. The problem is I’m afraid it will cast a red tone on all my product pictures. I’m very tempted though.

January 27, 2012 at 7:53 amMine were completely off, watery blues and violets. Not me at all!
Kate
January 27, 2012 at 8:21 amYou are totally not the only adult who wants pink walls!
I have pink walls in my den, and the stone on the fireplace is white, grey, purple and pink quartz!

January 27, 2012 at 8:22 amOranges and Purples, completely not my style. I’d like light turquoise or gray walls with red or kelly green accents.
LisaInIllinois
January 27, 2012 at 9:25 amI also got several pinks and I am not a huge of pink…tried it again and it was a better match.
LisaInIllinois
January 27, 2012 at 9:25 amhuge fan of pink…

January 27, 2012 at 9:33 amHere’s the weird thing. I took the quiz and it gave me the EXACT color palate of my home. Purple, tangerine, orange, creamy beige. Nice!
Katie
January 27, 2012 at 10:14 amI got 3 pinks! Pink Flamingo, Pink Peony and Sexy Pink! (And I have hot pink walls in my bedroom… you’re not the only pink-loving adult!)
Lindsey
January 27, 2012 at 10:26 amhmm, it’s hard to say whether this was accurate because i’m constantly tweaking the look and color of our home but it was fun to take all the same.
Laurie
January 27, 2012 at 1:22 pmFunny it gave me shades of gray and my whole house is painted in various shades of gray! Fun!
Anna
January 27, 2012 at 6:29 pmI got grays and purples but I have bold bright colors in my house like aqua and yellow-gold.
Amanda
January 28, 2012 at 12:08 amThe only colour I liked out of the ones that were shown to me was “Warm Grey Flannel.” My favourite colours: yellow, teal/turquoise, and grey.

January 31, 2012 at 2:46 amI think this quiz is a flop. I recieved pastels like a baby bleu & ballet pink. I would paint my whole house black if I could. At least it was only 30 seconds wasted.
Paige
February 1, 2012 at 8:57 pmHa! My quiz results are basically the same colors I picked for my wedding!
Lisa
February 2, 2012 at 12:19 amMine was maybe 50/50 my style? I got 3 pinks that I wouldn’t be likely to use. Still neat, though.
