I have too many books for a brass etagere, but they sure are pretty. And check out that brilliant IKEA hack!

Great. Like David Foster Wallace didn’t, you know, sort of do enough to culture already.

10 awesome free fonts, including a few that were new to me.

A blogging friend and I have been feeling kind of down this week, watching other bloggers have an easier go of certain things, and feeling jealous. This advice is kind of silly and simplistic, but sometimes that can be good. And this kind of helps too.

No, I have no regrets. (I ordered a print for myself. I think it’s a fantastic sentiment.)

Here’s the striped tee and skinny jeans outfit I wore on my trip to the north woods.

I have very few white ceilings in my house. (How about you?)

I like the look of simple bentwood chairs with a traditional table.

June 18, 2012 at 9:38 amThanks for the inspiration. I also love the gold sprayed shelf. And the Hella Jongerius vases + the gold mirror… where can I find an affordable gold mirror like that?
Ideas anyone?

June 18, 2012 at 1:27 pmThank you for the great links! I can’t imagine you getting down and jealous about blogging because to me, you are so “famous” but I guess it happens to all of us, right? Those are good posts to remind us. I’ve seen lots of talk on the topic lately and I’m trying my best to just look foward and not be too influenced (although it’s really hard!).

June 18, 2012 at 7:19 pmMan, those links about getting out of a blogging funk/jealousy was perfctly timed for me. Thanks for that.
I also loved the “No, I regret nothing” poster.I need to buy that! I just changed the name of my “mighty list” to “Je Regret Non” so it feels perfect right now!
Thanks again for the inspiration and comfort!

June 18, 2012 at 9:43 pmAs a young child of the 70s, do you know how many brass and gold etageres we threw away as a family in the following 20 years? I am certain one of those refabbed units at the link belonged to us! As a middle-aged woman of this old-is-new repurposing, I still say, “Y’all have fun with those. I don’t need them back!”

June 19, 2012 at 9:35 amNicole, you look so much better in that stripey tee than the model does! Looking at the model, I thought it may be a boys shirt.
And I LOVE the IKEA hacks! I am an IKEA addict.

I’ve read your blog every day for a couple of years – I love your originality and your dedication to regular posting. I have never contacted you, but when I read the link you gave about bloggers getting a bit downhearted, I wanted to say THANK YOU. I read blogs every day for inspiration and motivation and being able to be part (even in a little way) of like minded people. I’ve never stopped to think what hard work it is to entertain people every day. It’s not about being the blogger with the most hits, or the book deals, it’s about having the courage to speak to a community about things you care about and keep doing it, so professionally. It’s about cheering people up after a long day. So thank you for all you do, and I wish you EVERY SUCCESS in the blogsphere!

June 19, 2012 at 5:28 pmOh Nicole, I read your blog daily and I am endlessly impressed with how you run a busy household and a hugely influential blog at the same time as being a young caring mother … its funny, but over the last few days I felt your spark wasn’t there, and now you mention you’re feeling down – how candidly honest of you … I hope all the encouraging comments will help pick you up x
