OK. Last striped dress post, I promise! (For a while, at least.)
See, when I did my other posts, some of you thought the dress was a little too expensive and wanted to see some other options. So I gathered two dozen more. And then rather than just send you on your merry way over to my Babble roundup, I thought I ought to show you the outfit I wore the other day, on which I was complimented by a nice stranger-lady. It made my day.
-
Bubble Necklace (I’m getting on this trend late, you guys.)
-
Nautical Striped Shift Dress (I showed it in the roundup in gray.)
-
Classic Q Hillier Hobo (Mine is peachy pink.)
And the other striped dresses are this-a-way. Also? Knockoff bubble necklaces.

September 17, 2012 at 1:10 pmWhat a coincidence! I’m wearing an almost identical dress at work today!!
You can get a similar dress for less at Old Navy (http://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=49426&vid=1&pid=576171&scid=576171022). It has long sleeves and kind of funky ruched sleeves though. I like to wear it with cardigans and jackets, so the sleeves don’t bother me.

September 17, 2012 at 1:13 pmYep, I linked to that one in the roundup too!

September 17, 2012 at 1:25 pmTotally cute! I bet this would look adorable with a little baby bump, too, before le bump stretches anything non-maternity too much out of shape. I think I’ll get me down to Old Navy to rock my bitty bump and this perfect weather before either of those things change too much!

September 17, 2012 at 9:26 pmThere were some cute maternity stripey dresses on Asos :)

September 17, 2012 at 2:57 pmBubble necklaces are magnetic stranger compliment attractors. Also this dress (I have it in navy) is surprisingly flattering. Even when I wear it with jeans.

September 17, 2012 at 4:05 pmIt’s the best dress! I always want to wear striped dresses, but my midsection usually doesn’t. This one works. And the necklace is a total “magnetic stranger compliment attractor” – it’s true!

September 17, 2012 at 3:33 pmYet another cute outfit !!

September 17, 2012 at 3:53 pmSo on a complete whim, I went and ordered one of the dresses from ASOS on your babble post! Thanks for all the tips :) And I haven’t jumped on the bubble necklace train yet. I want to. I really do…but I’m not much a jewelry person (I have two kids under the age of three…and it typical just gets tugged on!)…but they always tend to be pretty expensive too!

September 17, 2012 at 4:04 pmThere are knockoff versions out there, though I haven’t seen them in person. I grabbed mine on sale at J. Crew (it was less expensive, but still not cheap), and it is really well made. Eleanor and August like to play with it and wear it (while I wince ever so slightly and hope it continues to hold up).

September 17, 2012 at 9:25 pmThanks.I will check out the knockoffs. And pardon my typos in the past comment…I had little hands playing with my hands and the keyboard and pulling hair as I typed! Guess that’s why I should wait until nap time to play online!

September 17, 2012 at 8:03 pmI have a knock off and its quite sturdy. I still wouldn’t have worn it every day when my kids were younger, but it will survive quite a few tugs. And it was only $35.

September 17, 2012 at 4:10 pmReally? A third stripe dress post? We couldn’t just go find a cheaper stripe dress online and style it?
Honestly, I’ve been reading your blog since the beginning but this is getting ridiculous.

September 17, 2012 at 4:13 pmI know, it IS a little silly! Hence, the tongue-in-cheek tone of the post. But people asked for more options, in the comments of the other posts and via email, and I didn’t want to just pop in and redirect you all to Babble without offering a little something here too.

September 17, 2012 at 8:21 pmSO glad to see the bubble necklace on your blog! Mine just arrived in the mail… a month after I ordered it, and I’m hoping I’m not too far behind on the trend!

September 18, 2012 at 9:16 amI like these style posts a lot—even one more striped dress post! Have you done a post about when to let clothing go? I was turning over my closet for fall yesterday, and was having difficulty paring down to just items that I will really wear. You seem so organized, I’m wondering about your system.

September 18, 2012 at 8:35 pmI’m pretty ruthless about getting rid of things I no longer wear. It helps that my mom and my sister are both happy and eager to take things off my hands though — I’m glad to see them getting more use out of everything. Whatever they don’t want gets donated. As for how I know it’s time to let something go, I don’t know that I have concrete rules about that sort of thing. Kind of a “one item in, one item out” thing, but I’m not so strict about it.

September 18, 2012 at 11:29 amAdorable outfit. I love stripes. I sympathize (especially in these times) with those who want cheaper clothes, but I am also looking forward to reading this book. (Note: I am not the author and I do not know the author.) As much as I love companies like Zara, I’m starting to try to think of clothing as more of an investment.

September 18, 2012 at 8:27 pmFiona, I’ve been hearing a lot about that book lately. I’ve been more interested in quality over quantity, finding that I’d rather have fewer (and nicer) things than a bunch of cheap, disposable goods. But I know that spending over $100 on a dress is a hard thing to do for a lot of people, whether they can’t afford to or just don’t like the idea of it.

September 18, 2012 at 12:25 pmLovin’ all these great stripes!! Really loved the round-up at Babble too. And the bubble necklace…yay!! Love them! I just ordered a hot pink one from Swell Caroline for $15! They were having a special on their Facebook page. Can’t wait to get it! Now I need to see if I can track down one of these great dresses to go with my new necklace. ;)

September 18, 2012 at 8:17 pmIf you treat your clothes well, they will serve you well and last a long time. Everything does not have to be thrown in the washing machine with the rest of your hard core laundry.

September 19, 2012 at 10:00 amLook this look. Especially for someone like me. I’m not much of a dress wearing person, but I love stripes and would wear this.
