Well, I went and ordered those Speckled Blooms curtains so I could see them in person. They’re pretty. They also don’t go with my rug (which I knew), so now I’ll have to decide which I like better.
If I keep them, I’ll sell the zigzag rug. Then I’ll either bring in the white Orleans rug from the nursery (depending on what we do in August’s room when we get rid of his crib), or I’ll pick up something white and fluffy for the office. Maybe just a little sheepskin for under my chair?
The curtains are pretty girly, but it is my office, so I’m not too worried about that. I don’t know if I’m in love with them though. If I were to really implement everything from my reimagined office design board, they would be beautiful. Without the lovely wood tones from the card catalog dressers (or maybe an awesome vintage credenza), and the added interest of the brass and bright red, they’re falling a little flat.

February 7, 2013 at 11:29 amMaybe you’re just in the bumpy middle period as identified by John and Sherry, Nicole. The curtains are pretty. Can you switch up some other accessories in addition to the rug to make them work?

February 7, 2013 at 1:25 pmIt is a bumpy middle, but I don’t have a clear plan yet on how to resolve it. Well, I mean, I do, but it’s not going to actually happen. ;)

February 7, 2013 at 12:27 pmI am confused; I thought you had moved your office to the basement, but it looks like it is not an understory room. If that is indeed the case, maybe you could switch around your office and August’s room so that he’ll have more room for a big kid bed and more space as he grows?

February 7, 2013 at 12:52 pmI used to have an office and a studio, when I was making everything for my stationery line. We moved everything down from the studio into the basement, then made that room into Eleanor’s bedroom. The studio/E’s room, our bedroom, and August’s bedroom are all upstairs together. My office is on the main floor, off of the dining room.

February 7, 2013 at 12:30 pmNicole,
I love the bloom curtains- they are bright and cheery. I would change up the rug.

February 7, 2013 at 12:38 pmKeep the curtains so that you can sell your rug to me!

February 7, 2013 at 12:47 pmWhen I look at this, the thing that looks most out of place (and it sounds silly, because it’s so neutral!) is the storage. Maybe that could be painted to bring in some cheeriness and warmth? Maybe red and pink, with brass knobs? I’m just throwing stuff out there!
Or just replace them with that gorgeous card catalog dresser. I want that thing so much.

February 7, 2013 at 12:53 pmIt is the storage that’s out of place. I don’t think painting it is the answer, because I don’t want a big block of painted rectangle on that wall. I want the card catalog dressers!

February 7, 2013 at 1:02 pmHad you thought about trying out a PANYL treatment on the storage doors? They sell it in big sheets you can custom-cut. You could go with a wood grain!

February 7, 2013 at 1:24 pmI’m just not a fan of the monolith shape next to the curtains. I’d want something with more detail to it, in addition to the warm wood tone.

February 7, 2013 at 12:48 pmI love the curtains, but you know what is best for you even if it isn’t clear now.

February 7, 2013 at 12:58 pmI really like the curtains! I can’t see them with the rug, but from clicking back and forth, they look like they at least blend. I just got some new blue curtains from West Elm that don’t really match with my rug, but I like the contradiction. You’ll figure it out. Worst case, you get those new dressers!

February 7, 2013 at 1:22 pmNah, the curtains and the rug don’t blend. They look terrible together!

February 7, 2013 at 1:01 pmIf you don;t like them in the office you can put them in Eleanor’s room perhaps?
Making it Lovely
February 7, 2013 at 1:22 pmThat’s an option. Or cut one up to use in the kitchen instead of my Rifle Paper Co. fabric… maybe?

February 7, 2013 at 1:13 pmI agree with you, they look so so with the room as it is now. I say go with the card catalog piece or another warm wood storage piece with them. The entire look would be divine, even though the present office is darling also.

February 7, 2013 at 1:21 pmI’m going to The Vintage Bazaar next weekend. Maybe I’ll find something there that will work.

February 7, 2013 at 1:43 pmThat was my thought. Although a real card catalog has much less function. But I’m sure you can find something less blocky and on legs. Sexy furniture legs :)

February 7, 2013 at 1:52 pmI wonder if perhaps that coffee coloured lamp base is not doing any good at all, either?! The pink/red in the curtains would pull things together a bit (and you could paint it if there’s no cash for shopping!

February 7, 2013 at 2:09 pmI looked at these curtains online, but kept looking. Then I saw your office board with them and I decided to make the order. They’re supposed to be here on Saturday. I’m really hoping I love them. I also ordered a flokati pouf and was planning to move in my sheep skin rug.

February 7, 2013 at 2:09 pmI think they look too precious. Not that every item in your room has to be interesting, but the curtains fall flat for me. It seems that you should not have to replace several items in the room to make them work (rug, cabinet….). Personally, I like the curtains you made for your old office that I think are in Eleanor’s room. The scale and colors are much more interesting. Perhaps the problem is the uniformity of the flowers in the pattern.

February 7, 2013 at 2:42 pmI love the curtains, but I think you are right. The dresser must go! Ha! Look how decisive we can be with your cash!
Although, the pattern would be nice in your kitchen with a window full of herbs…. ;)

February 7, 2013 at 3:18 pmI *really* like the curtains and don’t think they’re very girly at all. To me they read fresh. And I don’t mind the dresser either (simple, clean lines), although I realize I’m only seeing snipps of the room.

February 7, 2013 at 5:03 pmSee, I didn’t love these when I saw them on Anthro’s site, but now that I can see what they actually look like on a real window I’ve fallen for them pretty hard. Anthro majorly excels at instore presentations, but I think they need to work on the online product photo styling for some of their home decor!

February 7, 2013 at 5:41 pmI like the curtains a lot and they are not normally my style. I think I am craving spring!
I would start by painting your lamp base a nice bright red. That would look really beautiful next to the curtains.

February 7, 2013 at 6:55 pmglad you like them :) as an anthro employee, it’s always nice to hear when customers love the product :)
