How much should freelance writers be paid? The Atlantic has one idea. And these people have a few more.

Erin’s update on slowing down. “Whenever I find myself saying, “I don’t have time,” I mentally re-word the phrase into “That’s just not a high priority for me right now.””
-
Urban planners battle it out in the new SimCity for bragging rights. (Again, I say it is extremely fortunate for me and my productivity that the Mac version has not yet been released.)

Nine Inch Nails meets Carly Rae Jepsen. Oddly listenable.
(Good thing high school Nicole couldn’t see this coming. She would have dressed in all black, spent all of her time in her room, and been so surly. Oh, wait…)

Spring is coming! Yeah, I had to step over a slushy pile of dirty snow when I went outside today, but spring is most definitely on its way. So hurray, it’s time for spring dresses! (I want this black and white wide-striped frock.)

Of course I would love these mid-century modern prints.

Easter comes early this year (at the end of this month), so it’s time to get your craft on. And have you seen these dyable ceramic eggs? Brilliant.
This week on MIL’s Facebook page, enter to win a $100 gift card to LA Plates. Good luck!

March 8, 2013 at 7:56 pmSimCity=Awesomesauce. Unfortunately the servers for it stink and Ive only gotten to play once! Be glad its not on Mac yet…hopefully once it is, all the hoopla will have died down and you’ll actually get to play!

March 8, 2013 at 8:26 pmThank you for posting the link to Pixar’s rules for writing. My 16 y/o son is an aspiring writer so I printed them off and put them on his wall. Excellent resource! Thank you for sharing!

March 8, 2013 at 11:07 pmHi Nicole,
Just recently started reading this blog, but I really enjoy reading your honor roll posts and wanted to let you know that! The ones this week (especially the one on freelance journalist pay) really caught my attention. Thanks!

March 9, 2013 at 12:06 amSo many great links!
– The Atlantic… read that and just said out loud to myself, “Wow.”
– Also loved Erin’s update post on slowing down, in particular that very line you quoted was the one that struck me. So right on, and such a keen distinction.
– Pixar’s rules of storytelling- perfectly stated, perfectly said.
Enjoy the weekend!

March 9, 2013 at 7:53 amI’m going to have Pixar’s rules to storytelling tattooed on my body. So good – and applicable to just about everything.
Have a great weekend, Nicole!

March 9, 2013 at 8:32 amAh, thank you for the link, sweet Nicole! I’ve been meaning to check in and tell you how GORGEOUS your kitchen is looking. Am cheering for that new fridge (and book deal!). ;)

March 12, 2013 at 1:40 pmI’ve been working away this weekend on the book proposal (not a big deal — anyone can write a proposal), but I wanted to thank everyone for commenting and apologize for not being a part of the conversation more. I love that people are responding so well to the Honor Roll posts lately. I feel like they have shifted — in a good way — to topics that warrant more thought and more discussion, and I like that.

March 22, 2013 at 1:15 pmA belated thanks for including that striped dress from The Limited in your spring dress roundup. After stalking it for a few days (they only have a few left, and it kept going in and out of stock), I FINALLY snagged one. I haven’t even received it yet and I already know it is going to be one of the best dresses I’ve ever owned. I’m dreaming of all of the ways I will wear it — with a beautiful, grass green floral coat for spring, metallic heels for a summer wedding, a fuzzy pink cashmere sweater for a sweet date night…I can’t wait! And between the sale price and a discount code I had, my total damage was less than $40!
Again, thanks for sharing your good eye!
