Our holiday cards are here! Oh, yes; the Balch family is on top of it this year.

Holiday Cards

We have, in the past, sent out ‘Happy New Year!’ cards because we were a bit behind. My uncle remarked that he had “never gotten one of those before!”

Ahem.

This year, I ordered our cards from Zazzle instead of adding the task of designing and printing my own during an already busy time. (Former stationers feel a bit of pressure in this area, you know.) I narrowed my choices down to a few favorites before deciding on the cute polka dots design, and I upgraded to metallic paper. The paper has a subtle sheen to it when the light hits it from different angles, and the gold text and dots sparkle. And the picture? Well, we do take ourselves quite seriously around here.

It’s a little early, but warm wishes, love the Balch family.

Warm Wishes

Eleanor has excellent taste! I love her line-up.

I generally send out New Year cards too so you aren’t alone. First of all, not only am I too busy to do it properly but the people I send them too are often too busy to really appreciate them. So you end up sending cards to each other with just a signature.

Between Christmas and New Years when you have that lovely down time, I can spend time on each card and write a little something. I think it is a lovely time to touch base with each other.

That’s a nice way to think of it. I felt so guilty when I sent out cards in January, and even when they’re on time, it’s usually a mad dash to get that to happen. The very end of the year is a nice quiet time though, good for reflection and connection. :)

Its funny-I had a feeling of surprise when I saw the lamp and striped sofa and my 73 year old brain opined “well those aren’t right?” I then thought “well-what were you expecting from a young modern family?” Brain said “oh right……….not gonna do Victorian which after a nano second Brain thought “seems like an excellent choice.” Watching with interest A fan. P S love the card and the sofa and lamp.

I love our Victorian house, but I don’t always love Victorian furnishings. Thanks!

Definitely not my cup of tea but I got this idea that you would buy up some of those monstrosities and with a can of spray paint and some funky fabric ala your anthropologie chairs you would convert them to a modern aesthetic-but I love the affect you have with the striped sofa and exotic lamp-its perfect.

    So sweet!

Last year, I had all of the cards addressed and stamped by about this time, as our daughter was due the Monday after Thanksgiving. A week after she was born, I shot a few pics and we printed included them.

This year, well, with an actively running 10.5 month old who is happy to explore every space inside and out, I’ve only thought about cards.

Oh my gosh. It’s people like you who put the rest of us to shame, holiday card sending-wise. But I must admit I’d love to get one of those in the mail, so good for you and your list of recipients!

Nicole, It’s so exciting to think of all the changes ahead for your new house this year! I also wanted to tell you I peeked at your card in (2011?) and loved that card, too (especially the footed pajamas on Brandon!). I wanted to compliment you on your hair cut these days — it’s a classic. You look fabulous!

Last year a friend sent out Martin Luther King Day cards – I like getting a card and picture any time of the year and it was quite clever.

wow! I think getting them out by Thanksgiving is impressive, but this is way over and beyond! I’m hoping to even get some out since we are welcoming a new baby in December. Does it count if I say Happy New Year now?

I won’t drop them in the mail until after Thanksgiving! This just gives us time to have the ordering done, get them addressed and stamped, and ready to go. :)

The tradition in France is to send New Year’s card, so you were obviously just doing it the French style :)
    J’adore ta carte !
I’m waiting for ours from the printer now. And that reminds me to order the Christmas stamps as well. I live in Switzerland and this year’s design is my absolute fav! http://bit.ly/1cd4FaM

Oh man, do I ever relate to this one. As a designer I always feel super pressured (by who?) to design some amazingly clever/beautiful card, but then the holidays and life with toddlers gets the best of me, and the next thing I know it’s Valentine’s Day and I haven’t done anything. This year I think I might just swallow my pride, and do my best at “curating” the cards instead. Yours are super cute. Thanks for the kick in the pants, we may just send out something after all!

Speaking of Valentine’s Day, there’s a well-known designer here in SF who has adopted V-day as his holiday to send out cards. I’ve always loved his sweetly unique cards. Not a bad idea to use a different holiday for correspondence!
