I’ve been making over four spaces in my home over the course of four weeks, using just $100 from Target each time, plus GE reveal® LED light bulbs. I’ve also had a total of $4000 in Target gift cards and plenty of GE reveal® lighting to give away so that each week, 10 readers win everything they need for their own #100reveal makeovers! The rules and information are at the bottom of this post, so be sure to enter.
You’ve already seen what I’ve done to update my dining room and work space, and this week I worked on our playroom.
The room is divided into a few different zones with one side set up for art projects, plenty of toys on shelves and a big open space in the middle for playing, and then what I jokingly refer to as the kids’ apartment, over by the window. There’s a nicely stocked play kitchen, a small table and chairs for hosting tea parties, and a couple of chairs that divide the space and provide a spot for the grownups to sit. That’s the side I focused on for my #100reveal makeover. I used my budget at Target to pick up a wire cubby, a large wire basket, a clock, picture frame, and some fake flowers for the kids’ table.
The cubby, picture frame, and clock were hung on the wall to the left of the play kitchen. The cubby is acting as a pantry, the sweet print in the frame is from Petit Pippin, and I figure every kitchen (pretend or not) needs a clock.
I like to have fresh flowers on our dining table, so the kids like having them for their table too and an artificial arrangement is more practical for them to play with. The wire basket holds stuffed animals for tea parties.
I sewed those patterned curtains years ago for my studio, back when I was running my stationery shop and before Brandon and I had any kids. I loved the pattern then and I still do, all these years later! (The fabric is called “Mom’s Couch” by Moda, but it was discontinued ages ago.) There are three lights in the playroom: one in the ceiling fan, a floor lamp, and a matching task lamp. Swapping out their bulbs for GE reveal®& LED bulbs really made that pattern in the curtains pop! The white walls looked far better at night too, without the former lighting’s yellow cast.
You can see more of this week’s #100reveal makeover in action in the video below.
Eleanor and August patiently waited for me to finish up working on the room so they could come up to play. The new additions were a big hit, and the lighting made it much nicer to be up there as the sun went down.

March 10, 2015 at 9:08 amSo in love with your playroom – I need a space like this for me! :) The color difference in the curtains is huge. I have some of that fabric tucked away – this has really got me itching to whip it up into something!

March 10, 2015 at 9:27 amOur living room/playroom is in need of some major love. It’s so dark and totally boring, and with the beige walls everything looks yellow. #100reveal is on my shopping list so I can brighten up the space.

March 10, 2015 at 9:40 amWe just finished renovating our dining room. It included repairing a lot of plaster and was soo messy, so it’s nice to be almost done. I’m not sure that I can even stomach the thought of another reno right now… Maybe in a few months.

March 10, 2015 at 9:47 am#100reveal Yes! Our family room is lit by lamplight—no overhead lights at all. Even in the daytime it would be nice to have GE reveal light bulbs in the lamps. The coffee table and couch are where we play board games. I would love some new baskets to store the games and some pretty spring pillows or light throws to keep everyone cozy and cheerful.

March 10, 2015 at 9:48 amOur living room/playroom could use a fun new rug and some art for the walls (and new lightbulbs for the lamps)! #100reveal

March 10, 2015 at 10:04 amOur family room/playroom (i.e. the only living space in our cozy home) is in dire need of an update. The walls are a lovely light blue color but the lamp lighting at night is horrible (and I never use the overhead light!). Some stylish storage would go a long way to making the room more functional and less of an eyesore. #100reveal

March 10, 2015 at 10:19 amWe finished our basement less than a year ago. While we have the big pieces, we’re definitely lacking in the actual decor department. Most walls and flat surfaces are bare and it could really use some good throw pillows and curtains.

March 10, 2015 at 10:26 amI would love to finish up our back bedroom. We have the basics aka furniture but the decor could really use some sprucing up and the GE lighting would make a major difference in there since the room is located in the back of the house! #100reveal

March 10, 2015 at 10:34 amI definitely need a lighting and decor makeover in the bathroom of my new house. It probably needs to be gutted one day, but some small accessories like new towels and a mirror from target would help as a stop gap!

March 10, 2015 at 10:41 amWe bought a turn of the century farmhouse a few months ago and have several rooms with nothing in them. I would buy a few lamps from target and use #100reveal by GE to light the rooms for starters. I’m a fan of Target lamps and shades!

March 10, 2015 at 10:42 amWe bought our first home last summer and I am finally getting around to fixing up a room in the basement as a sewing room. Lighting in the room is minimal – just one recessed light over the closet door! My 3yr old loves to color and count my button collection at an old school desk while I sew but we need better light!

March 10, 2015 at 10:42 amI have been working on our basement playroom and reading space for about a year. We are almost done but lighting is a huge issue. #100reveal. Would love a new light fixture and a few lamps to help finish the space.

March 10, 2015 at 11:02 amWe have an upstairs loft game room that is in serious need of a #100reveal! March 10, 2015 at 12:17 pmI’d love to improve the lighting in my kitchen, and your post is timely because I was just thinking I need to start with new lightbulbs and fixtures. Somehow, our small Chicago kitchen is the #1 gathering place in our home. It’s where we eat, cook, chat, and it’s where my kids do their homework, so #100reveal / GE reveal® LED light bulbs would be a good fit. I’d also light to lighten up the color of the room, too, with a lighter coat of paint.

March 10, 2015 at 1:18 pmWe could really use some floor lights/general lighting the basement. We are trying to create a kid friendly playspace down there! I love the idea, but basements always make me uncomfortable – they are often dark and dingy! My husband made sure to make ours warm, clean and dry so now we have to tackle the whole “dark” aspect!

March 10, 2015 at 1:31 pmOur den (which is also the playroom) is SO BAD when it comes to lighting. It’s basically a dark hole. Not only do we need new lighting, we need new lights and hopefully $100 to Target could cover it! #100reveal

March 10, 2015 at 1:38 pmI would spruce up my eat-in kitchen. It is much of the entertaining of meals or card games at the table occurs. After recently moving into our rental spot the walls are still bare and need some loving! At night it is very dim and would be the perfect spot for GE reveal LED bulbs. I want to create an inviting space to sit down and enjoy a home cooked meal and quality time with family and friends. #100reveal

March 10, 2015 at 1:52 pmWe have a funny attic space that has to work for both storage and playing, but frequently storage gets the upper hand because creating a workable play area hasn’t been in the budget- money wise or time wise! The lighting up there is terrible! And not just because almost all the lightbulbs are burned out! This would be such a fun incentive to get it working! #100reveal

March 10, 2015 at 2:38 pmI have been so inspired by your $100 Target makeover blogs not only for the great Target finds but also for the difference in lighting quality you are showing in each post! My husband and I are always talking about how our current LED’s make our bedroom and everything in it look lifeless. I am excited to get some of the GE reveal LED bulbs in there to really change the feeling of the space from yellow and drab to bright and fab!!!!!! #100reveal

March 10, 2015 at 3:40 pmI’d love to update our upstairs hallway with new lighting and decor. It’s very yellow – everything from the lighting to the yellowish-beige walls to the yellowish-beige carpet. March 10, 2015 at 3:42 pmI would love some help with our playroom. We’re in the middle of final planning stages. We have some of the furniture and many of the accessories we need, but lighting is an issue. It’s in our basement and has two windows but they’re just barely above grade and therefore, don’t give much light. Working with #100reveal would be FABULOUS! March 10, 2015 at 4:09 pmWe have a small loft space in our house that overlooks our kitchen. March 10, 2015 at 4:27 pmWe are in the process of converting a game room into a more friendly-to-our-family space. We’ve ditched the pool table and ugly light that hung over it, and moved in a sectional and tv. There’s room for a table for games and puzzles, but we need lighting! #100reveal would be a great help to spotlight this new fun area for our home! Some window coverings and other accents from Target would be awesome!

March 10, 2015 at 4:53 pmMy son is going to turn 4 at the end of April, and his room is BOOOOOOOOORRRRRING. The walls are beige, we still have his ugly baby, blackout curtains, and an old area rug we borrowed from another room. I would love to swap out the curtains and rug for something lighter and more fun. He also has a great, handmade quilt from my sister-in-law, but it looks dingy and yellowed with the lighting that’s in there now.
