OMG. ‘The beach’ is a giant (10,000 sq ft) ball pit architectural art installation in D.C.

A look at the celebrity PR machine. It’s all so calculated.

I never knew about the Coney Island sideshow babies. I also found an old article about the incubators from 1928.
“The babies respond to affection like flowers to the sun — they sense it somehow.” -
And speaking of babies (segue!), two sets of identical twins were partially switched at birth and raised as fraternal twins.

July 10, 2015 at 5:06 pmI heard stories about the D.C. beach and the incubator babies on NPR this week, so it was cool to see pictures and read the 1928 article. Thank you for digging that up. They gave the babies whiskey! And all the germs, too, but it seemed to have worked.

July 17, 2015 at 12:45 pmIf you’re looking for a new book that’s historical fiction about Coney Island, I just read Alice Hoffman’s The Museum of Extraordinary Things. She definitely mentions the incubator babies as well as some of the other attractions.
Another person on goodreads suggested Dreamland by Kevin Baker too.
